Silvan rockets to top under Bomber power

By Cameron Noakes
THE former Essendon boys are running amok at Silvan and yesterday, they crunched premier Monbulk by 76 points in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.

Silvan is coached by ex-Bomber star Gary Moorcroft and he has introduced Aaron Henneman, Marc Bullen and Ben Haynes to the club.

The combination is proving potent and last week, the quartet booted 23 of the team's 25 goals when it pummelled Upwey-Tecoma.

Yesterday at Silvan, Moorcroft bagged seven goals, Haynes slotted six and Henneman added three, totalling 16 of the team's 21 goals.

For locals, the magnitude of the win was eyebrow-raising, and it has sent Silvan to the top of the ladder and into flag favouritism.

Former Collingwood star Damian Monkhorst also has been in brilliant form and so has his team Woori Yallock.

Yesterday, Woori Yallock piled on 12 first-quarter goals to blow Warburton Millgrove out of the contest and win by 116 points, 26.22 (178) to 9.8 (62).
Monkhorst, who has been scoring bags up forward, kicked three in the first term before moving into the ruck.

Woori Yallock is second on the ladder and is also undefeated. Gembrook Cockatoo is third after it smashed Olinda Ferny Creek by 96 points, 20.20 (140) to 6.8 (44).

In the Alberton Football League, Fish Creek's Leigh Coleman coolly nailed a goal from the boundary line, only to hear the siren sound and realise his team had played out a thrilling draw against Foster.
With 11 goals from Peter Grant, Toora District climbed to the top of the ladder after it mauled Devon Welshpool Won Wron Woodside, 31.17 (203) to 10.4 (64).

Yarram won its top-of-the-table clash against Phillip Island by 48 points but slipped to second on percentage.

Phillip Island tumbled to fourth after premier Wonthaggi Power belted Meeniyan Dumbalk United, 28.18 (186) to 6.9 (45), and claimed third spot.
