Must win round for Kangaroos and Bombers Print E-mail
North Gippsland FLA mere 71 percentage points separate fourth place from seventh on the North Gippsland Premiership ladder standings.

Heyfield leads the pack in fourth position, last years premiers moving up from eighth place in the last round to sit three wins a piece with Rosedale, Cowwarr and Boisdale.

This week is a must win round for many sides as they look to keep in contact with the top two who sit two wins clear of the pack.

Kicking three goals in an impressive four minutes of football late in the final term last week BOISDALE will meet HEYFIELD in the match of the round.

Boisdales Andrew Gieschen noting that the next month will provide a fair indication as to where his side is at nearing the midway point of the season, “The next month will be important for us to gauge where we are at as a side.”

Over the next four weeks the Bombers have a daunting run meeting two of last years finalists as they work on improving their season ledger.

This week’s opponent Heyfield rallied in the second half in an impressive display of football to turn around a seven goal deficit at the first change to win by over 15 goals.

Coach Rod Tatterson is expecting this week’s match to be a lift in competition with his side expecting a tough contest on the Boisdale ground.

“Were certainly expecting to have a tough contest against Boisdale, playing on the smaller ground is always a test,” he said.

Playing a simple effective brand of football the Roos are still learning as the season progresses, the team molding into a formidable lineup.

“It’s early in the season and were still learning and evolving as a team.  We’re in a similar position to last year with the win lose ratio and the way that the side is coming together.

“The new guys are learning how to play, this is part of the molding process for the side. I’m quiet happy with the way things are going,” said Tatterson.

Focusing on his side rather then the opposition, Tatterson boasts a through knowledge of Boisdale’s lineup the premiership coach having coached a number of their side during his time at Maffra.

“We won’t be too worried about them, rather focusing on us.  We can only worry about ourselves and getting the wins on the board,” said Tatterson.

“We know that if we play our best footy then we can win so I am fairly confident of our chances.

“Ultimately we want to put ourselves in a position to play finals the next four weeks are an important part of that goal.  We need to win two or three of the next four to continue to see our season stay on track.”

STRATFORD will be out to restore some lost pride when they take to the road against CHURCHILL.

The Swans will be looking to remain competitive against the third placed Cougars, Stratford less then impressive in their efforts against TTU.

The journey to Gaskin Park brings little joy for the visiting side and in their current form Churchill will recover from the weeks break to win comfortably.

COWWARR will make a welcome return to their home turf for the first time since round one when they host ladder leaders GORMANDALE.

The Saints have plenty to prove and will be out to redeem themselves, the players marking this weeks clash as one to win prior to the season.

Coach Daniel Sandeman noting that there has been plenty of early season talk amongst his squad surrounding the round seven clash.

“Prior to the season the guys marked down the match against Gormandale as one they wanted to win.

“There’s a bit of rivalry between the two sides and the early preseason talk about Gormandale has certainly played into the guys mind that this is one of the teams to beat this year,” said Sandeman.

Knowing that their backs are very much against the wall coming off the back of a lose Sandeman notes there are a few things working in his sides favor.

“Are backs are very much up against the wall, we know that it is going to be a tough task a huge one at that.

“Gormandale have shown that they are the side to beat, they have smashed teams in past weeks were in opposite parallels we have just got over the line.

“We have a few things in our favor, their coming off a six day break and a physical encounter at that which would have extended the players energy” said Sandeman.

Missing some 11 players last week, the side will welcome the inclusion of up to three players who return from injury for the big clash.

Marking the Tigers midfield and forward structure as keys to Gormandale’s side, Sandeman will be working on restricting the Tigers free flowing play.

The Saints preparing to match up against their best side, Sandeman aware that this weeks clash will provide him with an indication as to where his side is at.

“We certainly want to challenge them and see how we match up against the inform side of the competition.  We will be out to hunt them and see where we are at identifying were we need to improve.”

TTU will take renewed confidence into their clash against winless WOODSIDE, after claiming their opening win of the season.

Close to the mark in past weeks the Bombers found the right mix to seal an impressive 12 goal victory.

The Bombers outfit will be one of many clubs that will look to gain the edge from their home ground advantage this week as they aim to make it two on the run.  It wont be all one way traffic the Wildcats demonstrating vast improvement in past weeks, the side needing to pull together a solid four quarters to topple the Bombers at home.

ROSEDALE have their sights set on claiming their fourth win of the season prior to the weeks break when they host GLENGARRY.

Suffering a number of injuries in their physical encounter against Gormandale the Pies will be spared little reprieve against the Blues.

Rosedale blitzing Sale City last week with an 11 to three goal second half, the Blues strong forward structure of the Caldwell’s Brad and Joe, Ben Macreadie and midfielder Justin Emery will be sure to trouble the Pies defence.

Glengarry’s backline set for another test, the Pies defenders enduring a raft of pressure last Sunday against Gormandale in an indication of what to expect this round.
