SHEPP EAST V BERRIGAN The Eagles took another step in a rise up the table last week while Berrigan shook off Wunghnu after a battle until half time.
Key Players Shepp East: David Gibson, Steven Marchment, Petar Fantini Berrigan: Matt Eales, Kyle Hawker, Brett Bathman This will be a good game with both teams on two wins and they seem to be pretty evenly matched line ups. The Eagles’ midfield is solid and they may be able to switch the game in their direction if they can dominate the stoppages. Berrigan are always up for a contest and will travel to Shepp with a sniff of victory but perhaps the Eagles momentum of their first two wins for 08’ will carry the Eagles to a narrow victory. Shepp East by 15 points. WAAIA V JERILDERIE Waaia are looking good and smashed the Hoppers last week while Jeridlerie are thereabouts and will look for a four quarter effort after slipping after half time last week. Key Players Waaia: Sam Richardson, Chris Armstrong, Stephen Scott Jerilderie: Aaron Purcell, Chris Marshall, Luke Bryce The Demons will need to hang with Waaia for as long as possible and try and be close enough at ¾ time to pinch an upset. If they allow Waaia out of the blocks they’ll get smashed by the Bombers talented line up. Aaron Purcell is the obvious key to the Demons and negating him will be on Waaia’s ‘to do’ list while Jerilderie must try and blanket Stephen Scott, Chris Armstrong & Dave Gilmore who give the Bombers great drive. Can see a close game until half time then the Bombers should kick away and have a 21 point win. DOOKIE UTD V YARROWEYAH Dookie Utd flew home last week at Deni but couldn’t bridge a 6 goal half time gap and will look to get back on track while the Hoppers ran into a red hot Waaia and perhaps won’t get much respite here. Key Players Dookie Utd: Chris Kendall, Dale Osborne, Peter O’Donnell Yarraweyah: Chris Cheong, Jim Daniel, Marcus Smith Dookie Utd should have too many guns for the young Hoppers who deserve credit for battling away when undermanned. United’s two losseshave thrown them back into the back a little and coach Osborne will be looking for a percentage booster to straighten the ship. Yarroweyah will try hard but Dookie Utd look too strong and should win by 36 points. TUNGAMAH V DENI ROVERS The Bears are going great and with the Rovers coming off a confidence boosting win over Dookie Utd, this is sure to be a super contest. Key Players Tungamah: Tom Wren, Josh Maher, Nick Doyle Deni Rovers: Andrew May, Josh Bode, Chris O’Connor Top meets fifth in what should be a bruising encounter. Rob Wren has the Bears going great guns and he has many weapons at his disposal. Josh Maher has been a great addition to Tungamah and will need watching with perhaps Ash Germano suited to a run with role. Rovers may have enough height to match the Bears’ tall timber and the aerieal contests produced by Rob Wren v Josh Bode and Tom Wren v John Fitzpatrick will be worth watching. After a tussle expect Tungamah to prevail by 2 goals and remain undefeated. KATANDRA V MATHOURA The Kats need a win to steady their campaign after a tough period in their draw. Mathoura have battled on very nicely and have been in most of their matches for long periods. Key Players Katandra: Aaron Plant, Cam Calder, Shane Venebles Mathoura: Ash Neal, Trent Preece, Tim Sparey Katandra have been through some tough matches and should get stronger in coming weeks with players returning from injury and relocation and the Kats will be pleased for some respite here. Mathoura have been great in their intensity and desire but have just lacked the manpower to hold sides over four quarters. Can see a good game until half time when the Katandra machine should click into gear and pull away from the Timbercutters. Kats by 4 goals WUNGHNU V KATUNGA The Pies looked a big chance until half time last week and will look for a four quarter effort here while the Swans bounced back with a slogging win over Katy. Key Players Wunghnu: Brad Clarke, Mark Wayman, Ross Curhbert Katunga: Clint Phillips, Heath Fox, Matt Wellington Wunghnu put in another solid effort last week and will look to continue to give competitive and solid displays. They should be able to trouble the Swans in periods although over four quarters Katunga may have too many guns. The Swans have hard working midfielders and several avenues to goal that Wunghnu may find hard to cover. Katunga to win by 5 goals. KATAMATITE V PICOLA UTD Katy are going ok and weren’t too far away from Katunga last week while Picola Utd need to bounce back after consequtive losses. Key Player Katy: Daniel Bye, Chris Dale, Jeff Younger PU: Scott Baxter, Dave Trenerry, Al Holyman A big game for Picola Utd who will slip to 4-4 with a loss and be in danger of losing their top 8 spot. The Holyman boys Alistair and Dean give them hard working marking targets and their midfield led by Dave Daniel is good in the clinches. These may give the Blues the edge in an even looking game. Katy’s Daniel Bye is kicking goals and Chris Dale is in good touch however the Tigers just may find the Blues a bit strong. Picola Utd by 3 goals. STRATHMERTON V BLIGHTY The Dogs are on a roll and looking strong while Blighty are also going well and are out of the eight only on percentage. Key Players Strathmerton: Nathan Foote, Brent Davis, Adam Graham Blighty: Jarrod Wilson, Alexander Landale, Leigh Culton The Redeyes are going well enough to expect a good contest here and Strathy will need to be wary of Blighty. Any side with the likes of Paul Scoullar & Matt Wooden is dangerous and the Dogs will have plans in place to negate this pair. Strathy are hard at it and have a fleet of runners and this is where they may overwhelm the Redeyes. A tough one for the Dogs but select them to win by 14 points. By Larry Ryan |
