Lexton Plains FLRokewood-Corindhap is the minor premier of the RegionalOne Lexton Plains Football League.

The Grasshoppers remained undefeated, with a draw the closest any team could push them, following a comprehensive win against Ararat Eagles Saturday to round off their season.

The Grasshoppers had the number one spot stitched up a few weeks ago, but it was a fight to the death for the last two places in the top five.

And it came down to the Lexton and Navarre clash.

The winner was going to receive a finals berth, and it turned out to be Navarre who lives to fight another day.

The Grasshoppers prevailed 17.11 (113) to 10.10 (70), but it was not all plain sailing for them.

The first term was a nip and tuck affair, and though leading by 17 points at the half way mark, Navarre was far from home.

Even 20 minutes into the third term, Lexton was hanging on grimly, but things went pear shaped in the last five minutes of the third period, Navarre booting three goals to have a stranglehold on the match at the last change.

Lexton had run out of steam, and could not regroup to gain the victory.

Paul Sheehan booted four goals for the defeated, including a pearler after the final siren.

Sheehan took a mark right on the line between the goal and behind posts seconds before the bell to end Lexton’s season.

Unable to play on, he casually walked as close to the mark as he could before booting a banana kick through the goals.

It was a personal highlight, but the big picture was a defeat and realization another campaign had failed to produce a finals appearance.

Wayne Driscoll, Jim Driscoll and Zach Parry each booted three goals for Navarre in an even team performance.

Navarre goes into next weeks elimination final against Illabarook, Sunday at Linton.

GOALS: Navarre: Wayne Driscoll, Jim Driscoll, Zach Parry 3. Lexton: Paul Sheehan 4, Jason Hucker, Lewis Alexopoulos 2.

BEST: Navarre: Nick Murphy, Louis Hannett, David Lang. Lexton: Eamon Stringer, Nigel Reid, Tim Oliver.

Illabarook remains in contention for the premiership despite another big loss to a top three team.

This time it was Carngham-Linton which crushed the Bulldogs, recording a 58 point win, 22.11 (143) to 13.7 (85).

In the absence of joint coach Justin Porter, Jake Pring again led the goal scoring with six, taking his tally to 45.

An explosive third term saw the Saints kick away from Illabarook, cruising to the win.

Ryan Dunstan booted three goals, while Corny Cahill was named in the best in his milestone 350th game.

GOALS: Carngham-Linton: Jake Pring 6, Jarrod Burt 5. Illabarook: Ryan Dunstan 3, Matty Bernard 2.

BEST: Carngham-Linton: Jade Keam, Matt Stasse, Tim Clarke. Illabarook: Matty Bernard, Brian Lovison, Steven Tung.

Though only scoring 9.11 (65) due to tight play by the Eagles defenders, Rokewood-Corindhap was able to keep the Eagles goalless, with just five behinds their reward.

It is the eighth time a team has failed to kick a goal in 796 LPFL games played.

It was a cruel way for an improved Eagles team to finish, as the hard work now starts to add strength and experience for next year.

James McNamee added four Grasshopper goals to his seasons tally, while Jamie Elder ended the Eagles year with another best performance.

GOALS: Rokewood-Corindhap: James McNamee 4, Adam, Matthews 2.

BEST: Rokewood-Corindhap: David Paterson, Leigh Russell, Gerard Watt. Ararat Eagles: Jamie Elder, Darcy Butler, Scott Kackson.

Skipton survived a scare against Natte-Bealiba, grabbing the lead in the final ten minutes of the match to score a narrow four point win, 9.6 (60) to 8.8 (56).

In a game which saw the respective backlines on top, the Swans got off to a great start, only to see the Emus peg back the 19 point quarter time gap.

No-one starred in front of goal, with Skipton’s Kiernan Molloy and Natte-Bealiba’s Chris Jardine each kicking three.

Graeme Lench continued his end of season form for Skipton while Swans captain Stephen Ross did his league best and fairest chances no harm at all.

GOALS: Skipton: Kienan Molloy 3, Brendan Partridge 2. Natte-Bealiba: Chris Jardine 3, Kurt Mortlock 2.

BEST: Skipton: Graeme Lench, Nick Watson, Rod Kennedy. Natte-Bealiba: Stephen Ross, Anthony Ross, Brent Mortlock.
