Happier Lions' den Print E-mail
Millewa FLCARDROSS has broken its nine-game drought with a six-point away win against Nangiloc. However the Lions, who were grand finalists last year, remain on the bottom of the Millewa Football League ladder.

Onballer Michael Fotheringham lined up at full-forward and kicked five goals. First-year coach Chris Bounias was thrilled with the win.

"It's good to walk off the ground with a smile," he said.

"(A win) is like winning the grand final when you're struggling."

Bounias said the club was rebuilding following the loss of several players.

"We've got a handful of blokes who've come in this year and they've never played (competitive) football before," he said.

"They've got friends down here and they've just come down and pulled on the boots."

King Valley, in the Ovens and King league, and Mathoura, in the Picola and District league, also had their first victories for the year.

Essendon premiership player Gary Moorcroft kicked 14 goals in undefeated Silvan's 119-point win against Gembrook Cockatoo in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League.

Jordan Barham kicked 12 goals in Gisborne's 223-point thrashing of Kyneton in the Bendigo league.

In the Colac and District league, Daniel Casey bagged 10 goals in Irrewarra-Beeac's 194-point thumping of Simpson, while the Colac Imperials had a three-point win against the Western Eagles.
