gippflGippsland Times | MAFFRA was too strong for Sale in the Gippsland League under 15 netball grand final.

The Eagles were the stand-out team in the grade this season and, on Saturday at Traralgon, continued to play outstanding netball, defeating Sale 52-16.

Maffra defender Faith Biddle was named best-on-court. Others to play well, in an even team performance, were centre Emma Allman, goal attack Leyla Berry and goal shooter Abbey Pleydell.

The Maffra team was premier in the under 13s last season and are bottom age in the under 15s this year.

Magpies prevail

SALE defeated Wonthaggi 37-31 in the under 13s grand final.

The evenly-matched teams went goal-for-goal with the Magpies leading by three at the first change before extending the lead to four by half-time.

The Power fought back with an eight-goal to six third quarter.

The Sale girls played their best netball during a pressure-packed final quarter.

Best-on-court Clare Brown led a solid defence which picked up rebounds, while in attack, Grace Ronchi and Jen Wrigglesworth scored vital goals as the Magpies out-scored the Power 10-6 in the fourth term.

Pies down in thriller

SALE lost the under 17s grand final against Moe in extra time.

The Lions held on to win in extra time, defeating a persistent Sale team 45-42.

Sale players Maddie Ballinger, Steph Dyer and Morgan Mayne, who had been on a school trip to Vietnam, were rushed to Traralgon after their flight landed at 8.30am.

They all managed to get on court in the second half.
