The Saints snapped a three-game losing streak with a 12-goal win over South Warrnambool at Friendly Societies’ Park on Saturday.

Co-coach Emily Batt was delighted with her side’s performance against the spirited, young Roosters’ line-up.

“We just played well,” Batt said after the 43-31 result.

“We played more as a team, better conditions, we worked it in well to the circle.

It was a good four-quarter performance.”

Batt heaped praise on the Saints’ makeshift goaling combination of Bridget Roache and Rachel Dobson, who teamed well together, freeing up Teagan Lang to play at goal defence.

Veteran Kate Foster dominated the first half at wing attack before another experienced hand Stacey O’Sullivan took to the position.

Batt said the Saints put an emphasis on reducing the supply to South Warrnambool’s goal shooter Nell Mitchell.

“I rate Nell really highly and you have to stop the ball getting to her,” she said.

“We worked as a team.”

She was impressed with Megan Russell’s game at goal keeper.

“We know the South girls are pretty good players and we couldn’t expect to win. We needed to be focused right from the start.”

Batt said the Saints, which have been unsettled because of a new-look line-up from last season and injuries, were starting to gel.

Hamilton Kangaroos extended their winning run to five matches, maintaining their unbeaten start with a 21-goal win over Warrnambool at Melville Oval.

Kangaroos coach Sara Byrne said she was pleased her side had fought back after being jumped in the opening quarter.

Warrnambool scored the first four goals of the match but the Kangaroos then scored 11 of the next 13 goals to lead at the first break by five, en route to the 49-28 victory.

“I was really happy they got the job done,” Byrne said.

“We were very, very flat. We were not our normal group of girls.”

The Kangaroos face Terang Mortlake after the bye. “It’s a huge game for us, we need to pick up our game,” Byrne said.

North Warrnambool Eagles consolidated second position on the ladder with a 29-goal win against Cobden on Saturday night. The Eagles won each of the four quarters, taking the points 56-27.
