woorineenA COUNTRY footy club will on Saturday rise from the ashes to take to the field after its clubrooms were destroyed by fire.

Men, women and children of the Woorinen Football and Netball Club have vowed to play on despite a blaze leaving nothing but steel beams standing at their clubhouse near Swan Hill.

Fire tore through the clubrooms, home to more than 500 members of the club’s junior and senior teams, early Friday morning.

With the facility unsafe to enter, club president Grant Jones said the Tigers would take to the field in all grades anyway against Central Murray Football Netball League power Kerang.

“We’ve got to keep playing,’’ he said.

"It’s a community thing.

"We’ve got to keep rolling.’’

Mr Jones said the club had been heartbroken by the death of a player who collapsed during a match at the ground about two years ago and would be set back by the fire.

But they would rebuild and move on.

"We’ve got a tight little community that help out,’’ he said.

"Everyone will dig in."

Among those to offer to help included ex-player manager Ricky Nixon, who pitched in a signed Gary Abblett snr poster and 2014 Richmond guernsey, expected to raise several hundred dollars.
