MPNFL NepeanHerald Sun | A TYABB footballer was flown to The Alfred hospital amid fears he’d suffered serious neck injuries on Saturday.

Adrian Clay, Tyabb’s vice-captain, was knocked out in a heavy collision moments after the first bounce in the third quarter of the Nepean league game against Sorrento at Bunguyan Reserve.

Clay was still in the Alfred hospital on Sunday but early reports were that he had escaped serious damage.

“He’s going to be OK hopefully, he’s passed some tests,’’ Tyabb coach Mark Paganoni said on Sunday morning.

It’s believed Clay, who was in the ruck, was unconscious for a while and when attended by players and trainers he told them he was unable to move.

When paramedics arrived they called an air ambulance.

There was no further play in the game. Sorrento was leading 68-1 at the time.

“He was out cold when he went down and there was real concern when he came to about what he was feeling and what he wasn’t,’’ Paganoni said.

“There was some concern about his neck but that’s come up all clear at the minute.

“It was just one of those freak things. It’s footy. Fingers crossed he’s got out of it all right.’’

In the only other game on Saturday, Dromana came from behind to beat Rye by eight points.

The Tigers trailed by 21 points at halftime but rallied on the back of Beau McMurray (four goals), Beau Cosson (three), Billy Quigley and Rory Gregg to win 12.13 (85) to 10.17 (77). Rye’s best player was Ryan Mullett.
