lakes entranceGippsland Times | LAKES Entrance has placed itself in the race for an East Gippsland football finals berth following a 37-point win over Boisdale-Briagolong.

Seven unanswered goals in the third quarter set-up the 10.16 (76) to 5.9 (39) victory, with the Seagulls now sitting in fifth position on the ladder, outside the top four on percentage only.

Best-on-ground Jarrod Matthews and Andrew Stevens led the way with three goals apiece, however the final margin could have been far greater bar some inaccurate kicking from the home side.

After a win over Orbost-Snowy Rovers last weekend, Boisdale-Briagolong struggled to match it with a superior opponent, with the Bombers clearly missing a number of key players. Jason Langshaw kicked two of his side's five goals for the day, while Matthew Simmonds' efforts saw him named the Bombers' best.

Lakes Entrance's destiny in season 2015 rests firmly in its own hands with four weeks to play. The Seagulls will face Paynesville and Lucknow over the coming fortnight, before clashes against bottom of the table Orbost and top of the ladder Stratford to round out the season.

Swans boost percentage

A 102-POINT win over Orbost-Snowy Rovers saw Stratford move back into top spot on the ladder and increase its percentage to a very healthy 190 per cent.

The Swans won all four quarters on their way to a 23.11 (149) to 7.5 (47) victory, their 12th of the year, ensuring a top two finish is mathematically secure ahead of finals.

Jumping out of the blocks, the Swans kicked eight goals to two in the first term to take a 39-point lead into quarter-time. They continued to pile on the pressure in the second term, kicking six goals to one to take a 70-point lead into half-time and putting to bed any hopes Orbost had of causing the biggest upset of the year.

In the absence of Jack Bacon, Stephen McKerrow led the way for Stratford with nine goals, while Lachlan Channing and Liam Lemon both booted three majors.

For Orbost, Daniel Kane led the way around the ground, while up forward Curtley Nettleton and Tyson Siddle kicked two goals apiece.

IT took 14 rounds, but Wy Yung and Paynesville played out the first draw of the season on Saturday.

In an up and down match, the teams shared the lead multiple times throughout the day, but nothing could separate them at the final siren with both sides locked on 61 points apiece.

Paynesville will be ruing missed opportunities having kicked 8.13 for the day as opposed to Wy Yung's far more accurate 9.7.

The result dropped the Gulls to sixth on the ladder, but keeps them within a game of the top four. For Wy Yung the bittersweet result saw them fall from the top of the league ladder, but also assured them of a top two finish and double chance come finals.

WITH their season on the line, Lucknow kicked nine goals to one in the final term to overrun Lindenow by 19 points.

The Magpies finished the stronger to record a 14.11 (95) to 11.10 (76) win.

The Cats began the game far better than their opponents, kicking 4.5 to 0.1 in the first term to take a big lead into quarter-time. Lucknow finally kicked its first goal in the second quarter and looked to be getting themselves back into the match, however a deficit of 27 points at the final change was something most expected to be a bridge to far for the Magpies.

With a finals berth on the line, the Magpies dominated the final quarter to score a massive confidence boosting victory and move back into the top four. Five goals to Shaun Ryan and four to Tim Saunders were vital to the Magpies efforts, while Ashley Smith was named their best.

The result was Lindenow's fourth loss in as many games, with the two-game buffer it had over fourth place at the beginning of July now totally eroded.
