humeBorder Mail |JINDERA has snared the prized signature of former Wangaratta Rovers midfielder Toby Ryan just before the clearance deadline.

In a major boost to the Bulldogs' flag credentials, Ryan joins the kennel from Balwyn in the Eastern league.

Ryan played more than 50 games for Rovers before crossing to Balwyn last year.

Bulldogs coach Josh Walker said he expected the clearance to go through in time for Ryan to play against Osborne tomorrow.

"We lost Toby Blissett in the pre-season with a knee injury, which outsiders from the club have been quick to forget," Walker said.

"I believe Blissett would have been one of the biggest recruits of the year.

"As soon as he was injured we have been on the lookout for a suitable replacement.

"So we have been working on getting Toby for a couple of months now and it's satisfying to know it has finally come to fruition.

"It was a bit too close to the clearance deadline for my liking because I tend to get a bit stressed.

"But its worked out perfect timing for us."

The Bulldogs were able to lure Ryan to the kennel through midfielder Sam Myors, with the pair living together in Melbourne.

Ryan is not only a classy midfielder but also a dangerous option when resting forward.

Walker said the arrival of Ryan was timely with the Bulldogs facing Osborne, one of the best running teams in the competition.

"Because we had the bye last weekend I got the chance to watch Osborne against Magpies," he said.

"I was impressed by the way Osborne ran out the game and their decision making under pressure considering the young guys in the side.

"While they have got some experienced campaigners that can steady the ship, they've got some exciting kids who aren't afraid to take the game on.

"They love to run but we pride ourselves on our run and carry, so it will be interesting to see who gets the upper hand tomorrow."
