wangarattaBorder Mail | TOUGH Wangaratta midfielder Daine Porter has capped off another consistent season by taking out his third club best-and-fairest award.

Porter added to his 2014 and 2011 victories by polling 95 votes to beat former winner Jamie Allan by 20 last Thursday night.

Another midfielder, Matt Kelly, was third on 69 votes.

Porter, 29, said it wasn’t his best season, but said he was excited about the club’s future prospects.

The Magpies have signed former Melbourne high-flyer Michael Newton, and two-time East Brighton premiership player Ben Douthie.

“Mick will be great for us,” Porter said.

“He’s exactly what we need.

“We probably need an extra onballer and key position player to take the next step.

“I think with Mick and Ben Douthie signed up and the thirds guys coming through we are looking alright.”

Matt Hedin won the reserves best and fairest from Ben Henwood and Zac Hedin, while Hugh Amery added the thirds best and fairest to his Leo Dean Award.

In the A grade netball, Hannah Grady had a thrilling one-vote win over Sarah Hooper, while four were inducted as life members.

They were Ken Farrell, Paul Challman, Brian Hargreaves and Pam Voss.
