oandmBorder Mail | A LUNGING tackle from Wangaratta Rovers defender Will Nolan snapped the club's six-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon.

The Rover led by just three points at the final siren after Nolan chased down Hoppers forward Liam Butler, who looked a certainty to put North Albury in front.

Chris Knowles, Dylan Stone, Cam Fendyk and Josh Newton kicked two goals apiece for the Rovers, while Josh Minogue and Ricky Whitehead bagged three each for the Hoppers.

Co-coach Sam Carpenter, who was one of the best for the Rovers, said the win could set the club up for a strong finish to the season.

“It was a really gutsy win and a four-quarter effort, which is what we were looking for,” he said.

“It's really easy in those situations to lose the game, but I thought Will Nolan saved it for us at the end with his tackle.

“All in all, the workrate and effort was up, and it was bloody good to get the win.”
