pdfnlWeekly Times | THE Picola District Football Netball League board must decide by Friday whether it will sever ties with Victoria’s community football governing bodies.

AFL Goulburn Murray representatives and the league’s clubs met last night but the board, which will make the final decision on whether the league affiliates or not, was excluded.

Since the VCFL wound up, country leagues must be affiliated to their local region commission.

The Picola league is the only league yet to adopt AFL Victoria’s player points and salary cap policies — a requirement of affiliation with AFL Goulburn Murray.

The league would lose accesses to the existing insurance policy, the National Player Transfer Regulations, support from AFL Victoria football development managers and access to some player talent pathways by not affiliating, AFL Goulburn Murray warns.

AFL Goulburn Murray offered to meet the clubs — alone — excluding the league board.

“Perhaps some inference could be drawn that the clubs may not have received all the information the league has,” commission chairman Nicholas Rolfe said.

League president Denis Brooks said that was “totally incorrect”. “We’ve always given the clubs every information,” he said.

AFL Goulburn Murray has also flagged setting up a competition for clubs to stay affiliated.

Meanwhile, AFL Victoria is yet to release affiliation agreements between AFL Victoria, the commissions and clubs less than a month from the season start. It said it was working towards doing that “shortly”.
