Gestier said it was crucial the Roos kept up their form.

“We definitely need to win a couple more, I’d have thought,” he said.

“I think it’s important to keep winning games, anyway, because it builds confidence and things like that.”

Corowa-Rutherglen is three wins clear of sixth-placed Wangaratta with four rounds remaining.

The Roos would have to lose every game for the rest of the season — and Wangaratta win all four — for Corowa-Rutherglen to drop out of the top-five.

It won’t happen.

Gestier, who booted three goals in Saturday’s win, said it was important the Roos got back on the winners list at the weekend after successive losses to Albury and Yarrawonga.

“That was our focus all week,” he said.

“We wanted to start well, which was pivotal.

“I thought our small forwards really applied a lot of pressure, which helped us lock the ball in.”

The star forward found plenty of support in attack, with James Svarc (three goals) and James O’Connell (two) chipping in when needed.

Joe Hansen, Hayden Filliponi, Cade Mills, Jarred Lane, Luke Prescott and even defender Al Austin found their way onto the scoresheet.

In somewhat of a shock, Austin started alongside Gestier in attack.

Lane was the dominant player on the ground and continued his rich vein of form in the ruck.

Brett Zorzi played his best game since joining the Roos and provided plenty of grunt in the middle.

Jamie Seymour also played well, with Jason Marks providing a steady head down back.

Dylan Cook ran with Myrtleford star Kristan Height and battled manfully after Height threatened early.

The Roos face a few hurdles in the lead-up to their first finals appearance in five years, starting with a potential danger game at Wodonga.

The Bulldogs are still yet to taste victory this season and will be desperate to bounce back from their 112-point humilation against Yarrawonga on Saturday.

The Roos also come across finals bound Wangaratta Rovers and Lavington in the run home.
