IT’S a good thing Callum Turner and Joel Wilson don’t hold a grudge.

Only 10 days after playing against each other for Kiewa-Sandy Creek and Mitta United in tomorrow’s Tallangatta league grand final at Sandy Creek, the pair will fly out of Australia together for a three-month holiday in the US.

Turner and Wilson have been best mates since Year 7 at Tallangatta Secondary College.

“I have always wanted to go there and Joel is my best mate so I thought I would ask him as he’s never really been anywhere on a holiday,” Turner said.

“We made sure we got the dates right.

“We put a week and a half between the grand final and the holiday just in case there was a draw if we both made it.”

While the loser is bound the cop some ribbing during their trip to the US, Wilson said they wouldn’t be going overboard.

“We might say a bit but not too much,” he said.

“It will be hard either way so we aren’t going to hold it over each other.”

The pair are bound to cross paths at some stage tomorrow.

Turner will play in defence and on-ball for the Hawks while Wilson will be on a wing or across half-forward for the Blues.

Besides the odd school game together and a stint at Wodonga, the pair are used to playing against each other.

“After we played against Mitta earlier in the year Joel came into the pub at Kiewa and sat with us and copped a bit from the boys,” Turner said. “It’s all fun.”

Turner’s younger brother Kayne, will play for North Melbourne against Geelong tonight.

While the premiership is the ultimate prize, Turner and Wilson have had another side bet running for most of the season.

They launched a beard growing competition in April and are eager to outlast each other in the fashion stakes for their US trip.

“I’m not sure who is winning,” Wilson said.
