THE recruiting coup of the Ballarat Football League season will come to fruition on Saturday, with Myles Sewell to play his first game for Ballarat.
Fresh off the plane from overseas, Sewell will pull on a Swans jumper for their clash against Melton South at Melton Recreation Reserve, as Ballarat rush to get him qualified for finals.
Sewell will need to play three games for the remainder of the season to qualify for finals, with Ballarat only playing four more home and away matches.
One of the most decorated players to come out of Ballarat without managing to break into the AFL system, Sewell was recruited to Ballarat to play alongside older brother, Adam, who returned to the club this year.
Ballarat coach Ash Baker said it would be great for the playing group to add someone as talented as Sewell to the list.
“I know the boys are certainly looking forward to having someone of his calibre running around with them this weekend,” Baker
said.
“He’ll give the younger guys a lot of confidence, his knowledge of football is very strong and it will help the way we set up and so forth.
“Being his first week back he’ll need to come in and find his feet a little bit, but as he plays one, two, three or four games with us he will definitely be good value.”
Among an outstanding VFL career that has been littered with accolades, Sewell won premierships with North Ballarat Roosters in 2008, 2009 and 2010, was in the VFL team of the year when he won the league best and fairest award and was also Norm Goss medallist for best on ground in a VFL grand final in 2010.
He also represented Victoria three times in state league showdowns.
Sewell has been overseas with close friend Bill Driscoll, who is set to make a return for Springbank in the Central Highlands Football League on Saturday against Daylesford at Snake Valley.
His former Roosters team mate played the first three games of the season, kicking 15 goals.
