lvflBendigo Advertiser | INACCURACY was a major letdown as Loddon Valley was beaten by Alberton in the AFL Victoria Worksafe Country Championships match at Bendigo's Queen Elizabeth Oval on Saturday.

Faced with a 20-point deficit at half-time, the LVFL won plenty of contests in the third but just could not capitalise.

Loddon Valley added eight behinds as Alberton scored 3.8 to lead by 38 points at a quarter to go.

The clash ended in a 107-74 win for Alberton.

Loddon Valley playing coach Andrew Collins said the team's workate lifted markedly in the third quarter, but was let down by poor shots at goal, either set-shot or on the run.

"We had plenty of inside 50 opportunities," Collins said.

"We just lacked the polish.

"It was a frustrating day at times.

"You have to win the footy, but also use it and make the most of scoring chances.

"We just didn't do that."

Alberton made a flying start to the contest as key forward Nick Connellan from Foster had scored all three goals of the match by the 13th minute.

Another Connellan shot hit the post.

When Tarwin's Tom Keily was on target from long range the Alberton line-up led 26-2 just a few minutes from quarter-time.

Loddon Valley had been inside its attacking zone almost as many times, but few marks were taken.

The second quarter kicked off with Calivil United clubmates Anthony Dennis and Jay McDonald on target as Loddon Valley cut the deficit to 12 points by the third minute.

Callan Park from Fish Creek won possession from a ball-up in the goalsquare to goal for Alberton.

A few minutes later and Park's running goal from near centre half-forward capped excellent team play.

The Valley struck back as Pyramid Hill's Danko Bzenic goaled on the run for Loddon Valley.

After a run of points, Joe Brooks from Fish Creek marked and goaled as Alberton led 49-22 in the 24th minute.

A goal by Collins lifted Loddon Valley's hopes going into the half-time break.

The start of the third quarter was a repeat of the first as Alberton slammed on three quick goals.

A highlight was the diving effort and then quick handpass by Tom McDermott to Connellan.

A snapshot by Connellan brought up his fourth goal and Alberton's 10th of the match.

Collins, Marong's Corey Gregg and Bridgewater's Tristan Nalder were key figures in the Valley's attacks.

Although it was winning more possessions around stoppages, the LVFL line-up had added just two points in 13 minutes.

A poster for Loddon Valley and then a missed set-shot summed up Loddon Valley's afternoon.

At three quarter-time the Alberton line-up led 74-36.

The final term began with a goal by Justin Marriott from Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside Football Club.

In his league, Marriott plays for a club known as Allies.

When Ashley Snook from Fish Creek goaled a free kick the Alberton team led by 50 points.

Loddon Valley's first goal of the second half was kicked by Bridgewater's Brad Rohde.

Excellent roving by Tom McDermott resulted in Alberton's 13th goal.

Alberton goals less than a minute later through Stony Creek's aptly-named Cam Stone.

Rodhe was on the end of a handpass to the goalsquare and booted his second goal for the Valley.

Alberton won the centre break and replied through Matt Schreck from Dalyston.

Despite a 44-point deficit, Loddon Valley kept working and was rewarded with a goal by Pyramid Hill's Jake Anderson.

Ronde's third goal cut the deficit to 38 points.

A key player in Bridgewater's run of premiership success, Rohde brought up a team-high fourth goal on the final siren.

The Mark Lafferty-coached Alberton celebrated a 15.17 (107) to 10.14 (74) victory.

Alberton's attack was led by Connellan on four goals.

Slick teamwork and strong defence were keys for Alberton.

"Their run and spread and overlap run was impressive," Collins said.

AFL Victoria best player medals were awarded to Brendan Kimber, Alberton; and Darren Clutton, Loddon Valley.
