egflWeekly Times |IF THE current trend in the East Gippsland Football League continues there is going to be more than one side unlucky to miss finals this season.

The competition expanded to eight teams this year, with the inclusion of Boisdale-Briagolong from the North Gippsland league, but finals will remain limited to the top four finishers.

After the weekend’s Round 10 results — including a top-of-the-table win to Stratford against Wy Yung — the finalists are far from settled.

Stratford and Wy Yung are on top at 8-2 each, and Lindenow’s two-goal win against Boisdale-Briagolong gave it a two-game buffer in third with seven wins.

Lakes Entrance won its fifth game of the season on Saturday to sit fourth, and Lucknow, Paynesville and the Bombers all have four wins each.

“We’ve got so many clubs hovering around those last two positions,” AFL East Gippsland’s Rod Twining said. “Stratford and Wy Yung are going to take out first and second, but who’s going to have third and fourth, that’s open slather at the moment, except for Orbost Snowy Rovers.”

Twining has gone as far as to tip the Rovers, winless to date, to defeat Paynesville at home on Saturday after Paynesville’s loss at home to Lucknow by 59 points.
