AFLcountryWeekly Times | VICTORIA Country has secured the AFL Under-18 National Championships with a game to play.

Vic Country’s 11-point win against South Australia on Friday locked in the overall result, with the undefeated side to play Western Australia on Thursday.

It’s Vic Country’s first division one title win at the championships in five years.

In other representative news the Vic Country No. 1 squad is down from 39 to 32 players but coach Peter Knights has not had to make any cuts with all seven players withdrawing due to injuries.

“For the most part they’re all significant injuries. They’re players that I could say were almost definites for us,” Knights said.

The losses include Tyson Hartwig (Wangaratta Rovers) with a thumb injury, the Ballarat league’s leading goal-kicker Derick Micallef (North Ballarat City), Luke Crane (Portland) and Troy Davis (Kerang) with hamstring injuries, and Rob Forrest (Rosebud) with a fractured jaw.

The final squad will be decided after training on Sunday.

Three Vic Country teams will play representative VAFA sides on July 11 in Bendigo.
