AFLcountry thumbWeekly Times | AFL Victoria club sustainability manager Darryl Collings has shied away from confirming a statewide salary cap policy would be introduced next year.

The policy is being developed as part of the club sustainability program but its introduction, originally pegged for this year, was delayed.

AFL Victoria cited feedback supporting phasing in the player points system first and more work and education on a salary cap policy as the reason for the delay.

Collings said he could not confirm the salary cap would be in place next year as the policy was not finalised, and needed to be adopted by ­Victoria’s leagues and region commissions.

Some country regions — AFL Barwon, AFL Goldfields and AFL Central Victoria — are introducing salary caps in varying forms this year.

“We’re working towards a ­salary cap policy being ­implemented for 2017 in the remainder of the state” Collings said.
