AFLcountry thumbWeekly Times | THE player points allocations for all Victorian senior footballers are expected to be available online this weekend.

AFL Victoria’s player points policy continues to be rolled out across the state, with more leagues getting their first games under the new system this weekend.

Every player in senior football is allocated a points value under the policy, which is aimed at encouraging player retention, junior promotion and reducing the inequality of leagues.

Technical issues have been blamed for not having the allocations available online from the start of the season.

“AFL Victoria’s expectation was to have player points available online at the start of the 2016 season,” AFL Victoria community football and engagement manager Brett Connell said this week.”

“Due to some technical issues, that has not been possible to date,” Connell said.

“AFL Victoria has spoken to Fox Sports Pulse in regards to this issue, and anticipate player points to be available online this weekend.”

This policy is part of a program being developed to curb player payments and address competition equalisation concerns.

Every player in senior football across the state, except those in the Picola and District league, which did not adopt the policy, was allocated a points value under the policy.

Ex-AFL players recently out of the elite level have the highest starting value of six points, but players returning to their former junior club default to one point regardless of where they have played.

Further additions and deductions apply depending on other circumstances.

AFL Victoria club sustainability manager Darryl Collings said on the eve of the season that it wanted to make the policy as “transparent as possible”.

“We think it’s important that every player is listed in the fixtures/results section has their jumper number, number of goals, whether they were in the best players and how many points they’re categorised so it’s as transparent as we can make it,” Collings said.
