Ouyen United football club speedster William Farrer was following a wayward kick in the first quarter on Saturday when he strayed over the boundary line and went clattering into the windscreen of a spectator’s ute.

Photographer Glenn Milne captured the moment of impact during the Roos’ Round 1 clash with South Mildura in the Sunraysia league.

Farrer was even courteous enough to apologise and shake the ute owner’s hand. Although he emerged relatively unscathed, it was a calamitous day for injuries for Ouyen United.

Ruckman Lachlan Medhurst was the most serious concern after he fractured his C7 vertebra and will be in a neck brace for up to eight weeks. Ben Mole broke his shoulder blade, Jason McGlynn and two under-16s players broke their arms, and midfielder Dean Staunton injured his knee. To cap it all, the Kangas went down by 36 points.
