olinda ferny creekWeekly Times | OLINDA Ferny Creek scored a significant win against Mt Evelyn yesterday by 29 points to stay undefeated after AFL Yarra Ranges Senior Football Round 4.

Yesterday was only the third time since the Bloods joined Division 1 in 2010 that they have secured a win at Mt Evelyn.

The Rovers trailed at every change, but closed from 22 points behind at the main change to 11 points at three-quarter time.

But three goals within four minutes early in the final quarter proved the sealers for Olinda Ferny Creek and coach Brendan Donovan paid tribute to Dylan Wilson’s “captain’s last quarter”.

Blake Walter and Marc Mollica kicked seven goals between them in the 14.16 (100) to 10.11 (71) result, and Luke Hill and Kelsey Currie were solid in the backline.

Donovan, new to the role this year after being an assistant coach with Woori Yallock, was happy to have locked in away wins against the Rovers and Monbulk.

“It’s a very good list, well-balanced list, the best thing about this list is they’re really quite intelligent and want to learn about footy,” he said.

“The fact we’ve gone four-zip is nice that we can start, not managing, but it gives the boys confidence in the fact the game plan that I brought is standing up against some of the best teams in the league.”

Wandin also responded after a slow start yesterday to win the Division 1 grand final rematch against Healesville by 72 points.

● MERRIVALE capitalised against an inaccurate South Rovers to win the Warrnambool and District league Round 6 clash by 32 points.

The Lions kicked 2.10 (22), with goals in the second and last terms, against the Tigers’ 8.6 (54) who have won five in a row after dropping the Good Friday clash to Old Collegians.

The Warriors and Kolora-Noorat are undefeated after six matches.

● BEN Doran booted seven goals for Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside yesterday as it toppled last year’s preliminary finalist Phillip Island in the Alberton league’s Round 7.

The Allies, which came out of recess last season, kicked seven straight in the opening term to establish an early lead and ran out two-goal winners, 16.4 (100) to 13.10 (88).

Reigning premier Dalyston also clung on to a five-point win against Inverloch-Kongwak yesterday.

● KATUNGA has inflicted Waaia’s first loss of the season in the Picola and District league South East division.

Callum Wilson’s eight goals earned him best-on honours for the Swans, while the Bombers’ John Lucas slotted four goals in the 15.10 (100) to 12.14 (86) loss.

The other Round 6 winners were Katamatite against Dookie United, Shepparton East over Katandra and reigning premier Tungamah versus Rennie.
