Vic Country ambushed

By Gareth Trickey

THE VCFL District Leagues representative side went down by 56 points to an experienced South Australia Country at Stawell yesterday.

South Australia led from the first bounce but the VCFL applied the pressure in the third term to stay within reach.

The visitors stamped their authority on the match in the fourth quarter with strong pressure on VCFL leading goalkicker Ryan Donaldson.

Donaldson kicked four goals for the day and Chris Urie was among the best for the VCFL as SA prevailed 15.10 (100) to 6.8 (44).

Mininera League fans were treated to a local derby thriller between Penshurst and Glenthompson Dunkeld on Saturday.

Middle-placed Penshurst defeated fourth-ranked Glenthompson by five points, 15.11 (101) to 14.12 (96). A five-goal third quarter by Glenthompson saw the home side take the lead. But Penshurst scrambled back in the final term. Former VAFA player James King was among the best for Penshurst alongside Lachlan McKenzie.

Tatyoon remains on top of the Mininera ladder after a 166-point drubbing by Moyston Willaura, 33.16 (214) to 7.6 (48).
