ROCHESTER has axed former AFL player David Williams as coach of its senior team after 16 years at the helm of the Goulburn Valley league club. Article first appeared: 15 September 2007 Herald Sun
No hard feelings: David Williams.
Williams, who played 67 games with Melbourne between 1983-88, is now considering a possible coaching role with Kyabram or the Shepparton Bears.
The former playing coach and Rochester local said he was satisfied with the way Rochester had handled the split.
"I've just got to sit back in the next couple of weeks and see what pops up and possibly have a talk to them (Kyabram and Shepparton) in the next week," Williams said.
Williams' reign at Rochester began in 1992 and included two premierships (1992 and '99), seven grand finals and 12 finals campaigns.
Playing coach until 2001, Williams said he was proud to have contributed to a club that had returned from the brink of extinction.
"We're the smallest populated town in the GVFL, which is arguably the best football league in country Victoria," he said. "We're pretty proud of our achievement over the last twenty years."
