The final netball award winners for the Bendigo FL.CVGT RISING STAR
ELLEN MCRAE, EAGLEHAWK FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
Ellen McRae’s bid to play in the Bendigo Football Netball League began with the Regional State League competition in which she was awarded Netball Victoria’s Most Valuable Player award. After attending selection trials in February this year, the Eaglehawk Football Netball Club was quick to snap up a player of Ellen’s quality.
Recruited from Bendigo United, Ellen’s playing credentials include Regional team selection in 2007 as well as representative netball for her school, Catholic College Bendigo.
A dogged defender, 16 year old Ellen has added depth to the Hawk’s 17/Under line up. Relishing a challenge, Ellen has enjoyed her first year in the BFNL and will be a player to watch in the future.
AMY JACKMAN, EAGLEHAWK FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club’s defensive depth was bolstered this season by the addition of Amy Jackman. The younger sister of A Grade player, Jess Jackman, 15 year old Amy has a bright netballing future ahead of her.
A product of the Southside Netball Club, Amy’s netball credentials are notable having enjoyed success as a member of the Bendigo Football Netball League’s victorious 15/Under team crowned champions at the Wm LOUD (Aust) Pty Ltd championships in June. Amy was recently named in the Regional 15/Under team which will contest the State Titles in October.
Amy’s debut season has been a delight for Hawk coach Amanda O’Neill as she guides her team into the finals.
Congratulations girls on your CVGT Rising Star nominations.
BENDIGO BANK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JUSTINE FITZGIBBON, SOUTH BENDIGO FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
Success or the lack of it, in sporting circles can be quite cyclic. So can the turnover of dedicated personnel willing to do the hard yards on behalf of the club.
The South Bendigo Football Netball Club has been fortunate to have the services of Justine Fitzgibbon (nee Connaughton) to lead its netball department for a substantial number of years. A longstanding family of the Bloods, Justine has red and white running through her veins.
Though Justine would prefer to concentrate on her own game, a lack of netball coaches within our region resulted in Justine once again taking the reins of the A and A Reserve grades. Though on court success has not been forthcoming this year, the season has still be an enjoyable one for many of the players.
Justine’s club commitment is not only courtside as she represents her club at League meetings and is the vice president of the League’s netball committee.
Justine will soon enter her tenth year with the South Bendigo Football Netball Club and she should be commended for her dedication as not only a player but also as coach and administrator.
Justine will receive a Bendigo Bank prize pack including a $25 voucher.
JACQUELINE BUTTON, EAGLEHAWK FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB
The Eaglehawk Football Netball Club has gone from strength to strength this year both on and off the court. One of those strengths is Jacqueline Button.
The 2008 League Best & Fairest player is captain of the Hawk’s A Reserve team and has had a great season on court leading her team into the finals.
Jacqueline is a very amiable person who has been all too willing to provide off court service to her club even if it is umpiring practice matches of which she has no experience or attending club meetings.
This season Jacqueline’s primary contribution off court has been as a member of the social committee organising the social events of the club throughout the season.
A great club person, Jacqueline is commended for her contribution to her club and will receive a Bendigo Bank prize pack including a $25 voucher.
