Half time 29 v 17
3rd Quarter 41 v 30
Final score 51 v 37
In the first quarter Kangaroo Flat squandered opportunities managing to gain only a three goal lead at the first break. The young Roo girls corrected their earlier mistakes shooting 18 goals to its opponents nine. Ellie Fitch was exemplary at goal attack shooting from all distances within the circle. Golden Square’s keeper, Alex Conway tried hard against quality opposition. The Square defenders made it difficult for the Roos to take clean possession on the centre passes but Georgie Hyett and Ella Savy at goal defence and wing defence respectively moved the ball with precision into the goal scoring end where Fitch and Ella Savy scored easily.
Maddy Wharton, at the last line of defence, cut off much of Square’s play into goals

Eaglehawk stamped its authority on the game very early on setting up a five goal lead at the first break. Defenders Erica Connor and Kahlia Osborne limited many of Gisborne’s opportunities in the goal circle. Gisborne brought experienced player Paige Rymer-Hamilton into goal defence in the second quarter which enabled Gisborne to outscore its opponents by three goals. A RESERVE – QUALIFYING FINAL
KANGAROO FLAT V GOLDEN SQUARE
1st Quarter 13 v 3
Half time 25 v 9
3rd Quarter 38 v 21
4th Quarter 53 v 30
Kangaroo Flat dominated from the first whistle to the very last. Goal keeper Anna Dawson had the ball on a string nullifying any chance Golden Square had of scoring. Veteran Nina Cass played with a spring in her step positioning in front and scoring with ease. In an effort to stem the Kangaroo Flat goal shooting spree Golden Square transferred Louise Dupuy from keeper to goal shooter at half time and though the Square scored better it was insufficient to make any difference to the score board.
A GRADE – QUALIFYING FINAL
KANGAROO FLAT V GISBORNE
1st Quarter 13 v 6
Half time 22 v 15
3rd Quarter 29 v 22
Final Score 34 v 28
A six goal win against Gisborne in Sunday’s qualifying final set Kangaroo Flat for a second semi final showdown with archrival, Sandhurst. Kangaroo Flat dominated on the scoreboard in the first quarter setting up a lead that Gisborne struggled to make a dent in. Samantha Hommelhoff was impressive in the goal circle backing her ability with her long shots a highlight.
Gisborne found it difficult to penetrate the Kangaroo Flat defensive wall with both Alicia McGlashen and wing defence, Benita Swatton boxing much of Gisborne’s ability to drive the ball into attack. Centre court player Lauren Cowling put her body on the line when receiving long passes into the attacking third. Gisborne made changes at the long break in an attempt to get some flow into its game replacing Bethany Medica in goals with Tiana Newman. As soon as Gisborne made in roads into the margin Kangaroo Flat once again lifted the tempo to keep a five goal buffer.
For the final quarter Kangaroo Flat made changes to its attacking line up introducing Rebecca Hynes as goal attack and in a last ditch effort Gisborne recalled Medica into the goal circle. Gisborne’s desperation paid off and the red, white and blue were back in the game with a three goal margin (31-28) when the umpire called for an injury time. Kangaroo Flat quickly adjusted its line up moving Brooke Emmerson from wing attack back into the goals and Swatton moved from wing defence into keeper. The changes paid dividends with McGlashen picking off the loose balls just inside the Flat’s defensive third and both Emmerson and Hommelhoff both goaled to secure the win.
