Netball: Rosedale aiming for clean sweep

NGFLRosedale will meet its second semi final opponent TTU on grand final day after the Bombers comfortably got over the line against Sale City.

The two sides have met on two occasions this season, with the ledger in Rosedale's favour two nil.

The sides met just the once during the home and away season in round 11, Rosedale recording their tenth straight win of the season with a 14 goal victory, 42 to 28.

In the second semi final meeting, the contest was a hard physical contest as both sides desperately fought for their spot in the grand final.

The Blues maintained their composure sticking to the task with good clean moves and team work, Rosedale winning 55 to 45.

The two sides boast strong lineups, three of Rosedale's team named in the leagues team of the year while TTU defender Julia Currie also received the same accolade after a stellar season.

The Blues firmed mid year as flag favorites, following their faultless season however Blues coach Julie Gerrand is fully aware of the challenge that awaits her side.

"We always thought that TTU would be the team that we would play in the grand final.

"It was a shame that we only got to play them the once during the season, when we have met they have been hard fought games which have been of a high quality, high skills and have been quite close up until the last quarter.

"We won't be expecting anything less this time around, the side is growing in confidence with the girls working hard to continue doing the right things that have served them well throughout the season," said Gerrand.

Starting their preseason early and with a strong focus on fitness, Gerrand notes that it is her side's fitness which has served them well this season.

"Certainly our fitness has allowed us to run out tight games, but our height at either end of the court has also been an advantage in goals and defence.

"We will be missing Kiera Guareschi who injured her knee and will only have the one extra player on the sidelines given the weather forecast it may not be ideal.

"On a positive Linley Bertacchini will return from a month's absence from injury," said Gerrand.

Player coach of the Blues last premiership in 1994, Gerrand will come up against the lady at the helm of TTU Euni Thorburn. Aiding the club to a return to finals netball for the first time in a number of seasons, Thorburn will be confident that her side may have the depth to topple the undefeated Blues.

Minor premiers in B Grade Rosedale cruised through the home and away season, before making easy pickings of Glengarry to secure a grand final berth.

Led by captain and league best and fairest winner Leah Lesson the Blues like their A grade counterparts have been the bench mark side of the competition and will be confident that they can walk away with the silverware.

The Blues will meet TTU, who led by league best and fairest joint winner Michelle Brady finished the season strongly to hold onto fourth position. Taking the long road to finals the Bombers have had to win each week to keep their premiership ambitions alive. Carrying the underdog status is will be a tough ask for the Bombers who will look to employ a slow, clunky game which will restrict Rosedale's quick movement in the midcourt.

Scoring a one goal victory in the dying seconds of their second semi final clash a fortnight ago C Grade TTU will be confident that they can continue their stellar finals performances when they meet minor premiers Glengarry.

Meeting on three occasions for a win loss ratio of one-two, Glengarry went into the semi finals as red hot favourites. But disposing of Gormandale in an upset result, TTU kept with the Magpies throughout the contest to snare the win.

Expect league best and fairest winner Tanya Keast to play an instrumental role in defence for the Bombers.

Finishing the home and away season undefeated Glengarry D Grade side suffered a hiccup in the second semi final, suffering their first defeat at the hands of Gormandale.

Set to meet the Tigers in the penultimate match, the Magpies will be confident of reversing the tables to claim the title over the reigning premiers.

TTU Under 17 side sat out the preliminary final week after advancing to the grand final with a 12 goal victory over Glengarry in week two of finals.

Boasting a strong lineup the Bombers continued their development from 2010 to finish at the top of the table and appear poised to claim their first Under 17 title.
