Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 8 Review

Lexton PLains FLIllabarook has moved a game clear of the pack of four fighting for fifth spot in the RegionalOne Lexton Plains Football League.

The Bulldogs win over Lexton Saturday proved to be an eight point game in more ways than one.

Not only did Illabarook’s win put it a game ahead of Lexton, rather than a game behind if it had lost, the margin was also eight points, 6.13 (49) to 6.5 (41).

Neither took advantage of the wind during the day, but that was more to do with good defensive work by both teams.

Lexton coach Eamon Johnson was performing well, as was Bulldog Steven Tung moving into the main break.

Neither could take control in the third, with Lexton holding a one point lead going into the final quarter. It was Tung who goaled first in the last term, giving the Bulldogs the lead late in the match.

Lexton hit back straight away but the Bulldog’s Simon Marra, who had missed the past month through injury, snapped truly to help his adopted team score the important victory.

Ryan Dunstan kicked two goals for the victors, while Tim Oliver booted two for Lexton.

Goals: Illabarook: Ryan Dunstan 2, Brian Lovison, Shannon Berriman, Steven Tung, Simon Marra 1. Lexton: Tim Oliver 2, Eamon Johnson, Mark Sheehan, Simon Irving, Jeremy Jenkins 1.

Best: Illabarook: Steven Tung, Luke Preston, Clint Aspland, Joel van Gils, Brad Vagg, Beau Ketchen. Lexton: Sam Miller, Joe Ashmore, Eamon Johnson, Tim Oliver, Mark Sheehan.

Rokewood-Corindhap did not have things all its own way, but still came away with a solid win over Navarre.

The 13.11 (89) to 8.8 (56) victory was not in the bag until the third term progressed.

Five unanswered goals gave Rokewood-Corindhap the break it needed, which it held onto for the remainder of the game.

Winning coach Tom Mullane-Grant pushed his goal tally to 64 with another seven Saturday.

Jason Hutchins was in charge in defence, while Xavier Ryan was using his height around the ground to advantage.

Navarre’s Bryce Tickner and captain Nick Murphy played well, as did full-back Heath Hemley.

Navarre was not at full strength, but still had 21 players that had a go.

And a favourable second half of the year, which sees Navarre play seven of its remaining eight games at home, should see it pushing for a top three spot.

Goals: Rokewood-Corindhap: Tom Mullane-Grant 7, Evan Mason 2, Luke Ashmore, Cam Griffith, Stuart Matheson, Ryan Raglus 1. Navarre: Sam Robertson 3, Louis Hannett, Nick Murphy, Matt Rahley, Lachlan Robertson, Daniel Reading 1.

Best: Rokewood-Corindhap: Jason Hutchins, Stuart Matheson, Evan Mason, Tim Fulton, Shaun Carroll, Ross Arnall. Navarre: Bryce Tickner, James Watts, Heath Hemley, Ben Martin, Luke Bibby, Nick Murphy.

Carngham-Linton did not give Natte-Bealiba a look in at Linton Saturday, winning 18.15 (123) to 7.5 (47).

The 76 point victory was a club record over Natte-Bealiba, whose season goes from bad to worse.

The Saints spread their goals over eight players, with Jarrod Burt and Duane Bodey best with four each.

But better news for Carngham-Linton was the return through the reserves of two premiership players, who have yet to play a senior game this year between them.

Clint Ladiges and James Rayner made successful returns, and their imminent senior selection can only improve the Saints, particularly as finals approach.

Steven Quinn kicked four goals for Natte-Bealiba, as the Swans failed to put any pressure on Carngham-Linton.

The season is not over yet for Natte-Bealiba, but it will take a big turnaround to make things right.

Brent Mortlock has been in superb form this year, earning an inter-league call up last week, but he has too few mates on the field.

Goals: Carngham-Linton: Jarrod Burt, Duane Bodey 4, Nick O’Brien 3, Ryan Pridham, Jade Keam 2, Joel Kelly, Jason Hill, James Templeton 1. Natte-Bealiba: Steven Quinn 4, Jamie Evans 2, Jamie Andrews 1.

Best: Carngham-Linton: David Breen, Duane Bodey, Jade Keam, Nick O’Brien, Matt Stasse, Jarrod Burt. Natte-Bealiba: Brent Mortlock, Steve Ross, Shane Mortlock, Nathan Ross, Jordan Liddle, Steven Quinn.

Skipton has once again shown Ararat Eagles how to play football, coming away with an easy 139 point win, 27.12 (174) to 4.11 (35).

Ararat kicked the first goal 30 seconds into the game, but that was the end of the penny section as the Emu’s did as it pleased from that point to remain unbeaten after eight rounds.

Skipton coach Tim McKay booted seven goals, while Joel Riske booted six.

Riske’s inclusion has further bolstered the Emu’s forward line, which already includes Kiernan Molloy.

Ben Birch-Burton managed two goals for the deflated Eagles, but it was the young players who shone on an otherwise dark day.

Matt Zorkau and Ash Leggett played well for the Eagles, a good sign for the future, but at present the Eagles have crashed back to earth after their win two weeks ago.

Goals: Skipton: Tim McKay 7, Joel Riske 6, Gus Thompson 4, Dale Larkin, Kiernan Molloy, Matt Hind 2, Jake Harris, Toby Boyle, Damian Larkin, Danny George. Ararat Eagles: Ben Birch-Burton 2, Jarrod Alexander, Richard Lendon-Moyle 1.

Best: Skipton: Joel Riske, Graeme Lench, Toby Boyle, Ben Etheridge, Tim McKay. Ararat Eagles: Matt Zorkau, Ash Leggett, Richard O’Connell, Mitch Welsh, Richard Lendon-Moyle.

Next weeks games:
Saturday
Carngham-Linton v Illabarook
Natte-Bealiba v Lexton
Navarre v Ararat Eagles
Sunday
