Top of the table Woodside and third placed Boisdale sent a clear message to the remainder of the competition with dominating performances.BOISDALE for the second week running trounced the opposition this week by over 14 goals.
Playing for their end of season ambitions, Rosedale were left flat footed in a sluggish performance.
Dominating the centre clearances, Bosidale’s running midfield found plenty of the ball fed by ruckman Don Veale as they kicked away to an early lead.
It took some time for either side to open their account, the Bombers peppering away at the sticks.
Before Joel Lambourn, Andrew Gieschen and Danny Pratt combined, Pratt’s check side kick sealing the first major in a scrappy 10 minutes of play.
A strong lead by forward Saunders had the Bombers second.
Text book execution by Boisdale’s engine room resulted in the Bombers bursting from the middle of the ground time and time again.
Lee Talbots shot at goal appeared destined to be the Bombers third in a sharp shooting period on the clock, before Rosedale defender Tim Huffer touched the ball on the last line of defence.
Rosedale opened their account through Brad Caldwell mid way through the term, a free kick in front of goal to Scott Johnstone had Rosedale’s second.
Boisdale responded with a snap at goal the Bombers maintaining a 14 point break at the quarter time.
It was all one way traffic in a dominating second term which saw the Bombers add nine unanswered goals.
Rosedale’s Brad Caldwell slotted the first of the term through before Boisdale responded with successive majors to extend the margin out to 21 points.
The Bombers adding four unanswered majors in a purple patch as the visitors threatened to blow the game wide open.
Rosedale needed a spark but it was the Bombers Ben Plozza that inspired his side. The small midfielder’s desperation and doggedness at the ball saw him add another to the score as Rosedale struggled to clear centre half forward.
The goals continued for the visitors the margin out to over 10 goals at the main change 3.2 (20) to 12.10 (82).
Goals to Boisdale either side of half time continued their momentum, Talbot with the opener before Saunders added another to his tally.
Several more followed for Boisdale a dubious umpiring decision saw the visitors add another before Plozza added to his match tally of five.
Cameron Harwood broke through for the Blues first major since the opening minutes of the second as the three quarter time siren sounded.
Rosedale coach Damien Birss continued to make strategic moves in the final term, restructuring his forward line and making changes to the midfield.
Three late quarter goals to Justin Emery, Cameron Mayman and Harwood made the score board slightly more respectable at the final siren 21.15 (141) to 7.8 (50).
The young Blues toiled hard but were no match for Boisdale, Winston Gieschen, Plozza and Lambourn were all relentless in their hunt for the footy and did not waver over the four quarters.
Rosedale’s Johnstone, Ben Missen and Justin Reid were among the side’s best, with Harwood and Caldwell finishing the match with two a piece.
Past WOODSIDE premiership players celebrated the clubs 1949 flag, while today’s current crop of players showed why they are a true contender in the premiership race with a 22 goal thumping of Stratford.
A blistering 20 goal first half was followed by a more subdued 12 goal second half. Forward Justin Staley and Nick Stockdale turning it on in front of goals the pair booting 13 and nine goals respectively.
Coach Travis Ronaldson dominated the ruck contests and was a match winner for the Wildcats, Scott Kilgower was a standout with Clint Staley and Mark Collison among the votes.
At the other end of the ground Stratford’s Steve Nicholls booted a bag of seven in a best on ground effort, team mates Nick Farley and Jaryd Closhey notable performers.
A shot at goal in the dying minute of the match handed TTU a one point win over Sale City.
In the closest match of the round, the Bombers hit the ground running in the opening half as they appeared to be poised to run away with the contest.
A four goal to none third term swung the score back into the Dogs favour as they took a mere five point lead into the final change.
The two sides fought out an epic final term, a final shot at goal by the Bombers seeing the side steal the points 11.12 (78) to 11.11 (77).
Bomber defenders Tom Lambert and Mark McMahon were solid down back with David Smith another solid contributor.
Sale City’s Carl Turner and Sefan Mapleson collected votes for their efforts.
CHURCHILL snapped their two game loosing streak with a three goal victory on the road against Gormandale.
In a low scoring contest which saw four goals kicked up until half time, the Cougars pulled out their best in the premiership term piling on five goals to one to hit the lead.
Boasting ten scoring shots in the final term, Churchill didn’t make the most of their opportunities in front of goal however it was enough to return to the winners list 9.14 (68) to 6.14 (50).
Churchill’s Nathan McDonald and Daniel Hawking contributing seven of the side’s nine majors, Nathan Richer and Rick Davis named among the best
Tigers Jack Marion, Rob Voss and Ben Marks were standouts, while Luke Hegarty chimed in with four goals.
GLENGARRY made a return to the winners list for the first time since round three.
The Magpies laid the foundation for their 20.13 (133) to 12.7 (79) win over Cowwarr with a six goal to two third term.
The match was evenly placed at the long break with the visitors taking a four point lead into half time.
Glengarry rallied in the third with a six goal term led by Aaron Winkler and coach Matt Adams, the Magpies solid third term putting the Saints 22 points behind at the start of the fourth.
Glengarry booting away in the fourth, Winkler (7) and Adams (6) were the pick of the goal kickers. Rory Jennings returned to the line-up to be named best a field, Justin Flint and Winkler notable performers.
Saints Leo Galea, Brett Street and Scott Anderson battled hard for the visitors.
