Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 13 Review 18/7/09

Lexton Plains FLNavarre’s run for a top three position in the RegionalOne Lexton Plains Football League has finished.

The Grasshoppers were defeated by Rokewood-Corindhap, who with victory sealed its own double chance.

Rokewood-Corindhap won by 14 points, 11.12 (78) to 9.10 (64).

The Grasshoppers hit the front 12 minutes into the first term and, as the score indicates, was a close contest all day.

Both clubs had its run of goals.

Rokewood-Corindhap had its run in the second quarter kicking all three goals for the term to lead by 19 points at half time in windy conditions.

Kicking the next two as well had it 30 points in front before Navarre struck back.

The third period ultimately belonged to Navarre, with four unanswered majors to have it less than a goal down.

However a defensive error let Rokewood-Corindhap in with a goal just before the last break, a lead which it did not give up.

Xavier Ryan took some telling marks, particularly in the second term, and booted three goals for the day for the winners.

Ben Scott matched the goal tally for Navarre, but despite the confidence in camp, Navarre fell short once again.

Lexton has fought its way back into the top five after a nail biting three point victory over Illabarook on Sunday.

The game came down to the final minute of play, with Tiger Zac Thorne kicking a goal to put his side in front, after trailing by three goals during the final period.

The win has put Lexton into the five for the first time since round five, but their finals spot is far from secure.

Illabarook has put itself under pressure now with next weeks home match against Natte-Bealiba effectively an elimination final.

Youngster Josh Wheeler stood up with four goals for the Bulldogs.

Carngham-Linton did not give Natte-Bealiba a look in, in their match on Saturday.

The Saints regained second spot from Rokewood-Corindhap, courtesy of its 49 point win, 14.12 (96) to 6.11 (47).

Youngster Nick O’Brien played his first game for the Saints since round 8 and kicked three goals.

Six Carngham-Linton goals to none in the opening term was the game breaker.

The Swans battled the game out, being outscored by just 13 points from quarter time, but the horse had bolted.

Steve Quinn took his goal tally to 22, with three on Saturday.

But with no Steve Ross or Shane Jardine it was always going to be an uphill battle.

Skipton has kept its unbeaten run against Ararat Eagles intact, scoring a comfortable 73 point win, 15.18 (108) to 5.5 (35).

Ararat went into the match following a great win a week ago, but was quickly shown the difference between the top and lower teams.

Ararat was competitive in the first half, but the Emus got on top in the third period.

The Eagles Aiden Bell kicked three goals, as did Skipton’s Corey Fothergill.

Skipton’s march to finals continues, with three tough matches against other top four teams coming up.

Next weeks games:
Saturday
Rokewood-Corindhap v Ararat Eagles
Illabarook v Natte-Bealiba
Carngham-Linton v Lexton

Sunday
Navarre v Skipton
