Ballarat FC Prepares for Milestone Match

Ballarat FCThe 2010 MECU Ballarat Football League season continues to provide the Ballarat Football Club with further opportunities to add to their list of achievements.

This weekend's Round 3 match against the Redan Football Club will mark the 2,000 time the Swans will take to the field for a competitive game of football in the 150th consecutive year of operation.

Ballarat will look to add to its win/loss record which currently stands at 990 wins, 964 losses and 45 draws from 1,999 games to date. The club's recent form has been impressive, especially over the past four years after experiencing a period of difficulty. Some memorable moments in their 150 year history include a dominant period in the late 1800's which saw them chalk up 6 premierships in 11 years. However it was between 1923 and 1962 where the Ballarat Football Club came of age winning 13 premierships in this era, success that has only been felt three times since. The most recent in 2008 where the Swans stole victory after the siren.

The Ballarat Football Club has a proud history of players progressing through to VFL/AFL ranks. 59 players in total have gone on to play league football, the most recent being Mitch and Nathan Brown for the West Coast and Collingwood Football Clubs respectively and Drew Petrie for the North Melbourne Football Club.

This weekend, the Ballarat Football Club will celebrate their 2,000 game at home at the Alfredton Oval against the Redan Football Club in front of what will hopefully be a large crowd.
