A bright pink football will be replacing the traditional red one in Pink Footy day matches in North Gippsland Football this weekend as a show of support for women with breast cancer in rural and regional Victoria.
The Woodside Recreation Reserve will be awash with pink when WOODSIDE Wildcats meet STRATFORD, the clash set to enthrall as both sides work hard to post their first win of the season.
Both sides suffered heart breaking defeats on the weekend, the Wildcats keeping within reach of ladder leaders Churchill while two points separated the Swans at three quarter time against the Bombers before being blown away in the final stanza.
The four points have never had any greater significance for either club as they look to put their season back on track.
The two Bombers BOISDALE and TTU have endured mixed starts to the season with Boisdale breaking through for their first win last Saturday.
The hard work and persistence of past weeks paid off with coach Andrew Gieschen pleased to get the points.
"It was good to get the win we obviously needed it, to the guy's credit they stood up when we needed to and were terrific.
Meeting their namesake the TTU Bombers at Boisdale Recreation Reserve will suit the home side.
"Our smaller ground will certainly suit us and enable us to run with them all day, we were a bit under done in early matches but through the guy's commitment we have been stepping up and showing improvement.
"Peter Miles played his first game of the season and was terrific in the ruck wining the tap down and setting us up against Stratford.
"We have had to make three to four changes in past weeks, and with the loss of Don Veale who we still have a question mark around whether he will be back this week or next has really hurt us," said Gieschen.
The Boisdale coach also noting that it is hard to read into the form of this week's opponent.
"Its hard to read the form of opposition sides at the moment, were hoping that we can win a few more in coming weeks. If we can put a good showing in on the weekend it will go along way to taking the points.
"Next few weeks will be big for us, it is a perfect opportunity for the side to continue to step up and improve and with a bit of confidence who knows what will happen."
ROSEDALE is in grave danger of watching their season ambitions slip from their grasp after disappointing hit outs in past weeks.
The Blues have taken the points on one occasion and seemingly dropped out of the contest against TTU and Cowwarr after having been well in truly in the match.
It is a worrying trend for Blues coach Damien Birss who would be at a loss as to his side's recent form reversal.
For the second week running HEYFIELD has been knocked over by two of the competitions biggest improvers who have hunted the reigning premiers.
Although having only won the two games to date against lower ranked opposition the Kangaroos still remain the most hunted team in the competition.
While injuries and other commitments have seen Heyfield field a different lineup to previous seasons, many are still wary of the champions who were in a similar position at this time last season and went on to claim the flag.
Expect the reigning champions to hit their straps in coming weeks and march up the premiership standings.
Can SALE CITY claim their third top five scalp in as many weeks?
That's the question which many are asking ahead of the top of the table clash against the Cougars.
In a standout season the Dogs have blitzed their opposition in past weeks, accounting for Heyfield with ease after a dominating opening term while on Saturday the side came from behind at the final change to over run Gormandale.
This week they meet Churchill, who like their round six opponent has started the season impressively.
CHURCHILL coach Colin King says that although his side remains undefeated and sits on top of the ladder, there is still plenty of improvement left.
The Cougars were in danger of kicking themselves out of the contest on Saturday but regained their composure to register their fifth win from as many outings, but King said the side hasn't been at its best of late.
"We have struggled to get the points in past weeks; we haven't been at our best which has been due to not having everyone available and our fitness levels.
"Our goal kicking was obviously a concern last Saturday, our inaccuracy gave Woodside a sniff and they kept having a crack at us all day which we can't afford to do against Sale City," said King.
King is confident his side will have what it takes to match it with the Dogs.
"Were looking forward to the match everyone is quiet excited, we have been standing back watching how well they have been going, it will give us an indication as to where we are at.
"We will go in with a fairly similar side to last week, we wont get anyone back from injury we may make one or two changes which will be around whether we need to bring a smaller player in with a bit of pace to counteract their running players.
"We have focused on not getting too far ahead of ourselves, they guys have been doing enough to just win," said King.
Only 22 kilometres apart, the two towns of GLENGARRY and GORMANDALE boast a footballing rivalry every bit as fierce as Carlton and Collingwood which dates back to the eighties.
Sundays Mothers Day blockbuster promises plenty with the third placed Magpies flying high after passing their first test of the season. While for the Tigers they will need to rebound having come off the back of a disappointing performance which saw the sides lapses in concentration punished against the Dogs.
The Tigers should roar back to life to halt the Magpies run in a nail biter.
