2010 Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 5 review

Lexton Plains FLNavarre showed a new found belief when it overcame Rokewood-Corindhap at Rokewood on Saturday in the Kingprint Lexton Plains Football League.

Leading for all but 11 minutes of the game, things looked grim for Navarre when the home team led by eight points as time-on ticked over in the final term.

But the northern Grasshoppers did not throw the towel in, rather they lifted and scored two goals in the last four minutes.

The 9.11 (65) to 8.13 (61) scoreline was enough to get four very valuable points, but the result could have been different either way.

Navarre led by 33 points at half-time and it seemed it was going to have a big win.

Navarre was clean with the ball, kicked well to players up the ground and ran hard all over the ground.

After half-time Rokewood-Corindhap hit back hard edging into the contest to be a realistic chance of pinching the win.

Jason Hutchins booted Rokewood-Corindhap's last goal from the centre square, but it was not enough to lift his side.

The young brigade of Navarre was not going to let this one slip as in the past.

Goals to Daniel Parkin and a long set shot from Zach Parry got Navarre home.

Sam Robertson kicked five goals (three in the first term) to play an important role for the winners.

Natte-Bealiba stays slipped into fifth after defeating Ararat Eagles at Ararat under lights Saturday night.

The Swans were comfortable 46 point winners, 15.10 (100) to 8.6 (54).

The unlikely hero was Jordan Liddle who kicked six goals for the winners, after just one goal last year.

Brett McArthur was best with four goals for the Eagles, but they remain on the bottom of the table.

Lexton scored a solid 49 point win over Illabarook but the victory has been soured with mid-fielder Michael Smith suffering a neck injury.

The game was held up for ten minutes, after Smith attempted a spectacular mark in the third term.

The Tigers recorded 17.14 (116) to 10.7 (67), their highest score since round 7, 2007.

Lexton led all day kicking the opening three goals before the Bulldogs struck back.

But any chance Illabarook had of an upset was lost in the second term.

Lexton kicked six goals to two opening up a match winning 35 point lead at the long break.

Adding to Illabarook's woes was the report of Joel van Gils during the second stanza.

Van Gils still managed four goals for the losers, while Lexton's Jay Robins and Ryan Dunstan also each kicked four.
