Magpies scrap over line

North Gippsland FLDark overcast conditions across the region saw the lights switched on at three quarter time across the grounds, however the deteriorating elements didn't halt the competitions top five sides from claiming the points.
A lapse in concentration by GLENGARRY allowed the Saints to storm back into the contest in the final term of their match, with the home side falling narrowly short of causing the upset of the round.

Trailing by 28 points at the final change, the Magpies let Cowwarr back in the contest in the early stages of the term providing the home side with a scent of victory.

Leading at every change after holding sway on the contest, the Magpies appeared to have the result sealed following a dominate third term but quickly found themselves being over run by a hard hitting Saint outfit.
The Saints threw everything at Glengarry in the final term booting 6.3 (39) to 2.2 (14) to come within three points at the final siren.

Brad McBride and Todd Dobson led the attack in front of goals with Pat Tainsh and Brett Street providing Cowwarr with plenty of run, the pair ferocious on their attack on the ball.

For the victors Glengarry's goals were shared among five individual goal kickers, Darren White was judged best a field with Heath Fox and Dean Brooks among the votes.

There was more then the four points on offer in the clash between TTU and ROSEDALE with the Blues chances of securing a finals berth for the first time since 2006 hinging on the sides performance over the coming month.

The Blues hit the ground running as they dominated the contest from the onset, the visitors opening their account with two quick majors courteous of full forward Brad Caldwell.

It was followed by the sides third before Bomber Matt Scholz broke the Blues momentum to register the home sides first.
Rosedale responded to the challenge goaling from the opening bounce before the quarter time siren.

Play concentrated in the Blues forward line in the opening 10 minutes of the second stanza, however Rosedale were unable to make the most of their opportunities and time forward as they failed to trouble the scoreboard.

The Bombers defence upped their pressure and tempo as they flooded the backline endeavouring to contain the Blues strike power.

On the burst the Bombers looked handy clearing through the centre corridor but struggled past the centre of the ground, kicking long and wide into a vacant forward line.

Brad Caldwell broke the ascendency to goal, a steady shot splitting the sticks before brother Joe and Chris King combined in the forward line with Joe swinging round on the right foot to put through the sides sixth.

A check side kick by Rosedale's Daryl Mayman finished off what had been a scrappy passage of play to extend the visitors margin to 40 points.

Before a strong lead from the goal square saw Wade McNeil sneak through his sides first score of the term in the dying stages of the opening half, 8.6 (54) to 2.1 (13).

Three unanswered majors to start the third term blew the game apart, the Blues play makers lining up in front of goals as the visitors were relentless on the scoreboard kicking 8.1 (49) to nil.

The final term a formality as Brad Caldwell added to his bag of 10, King had a day out amassing possessions in a best on ground performance and John Cantwell was tireless in the ruck.

For the Bombers Brendan Kyle, defender Tom Lambert and midfielder Xavier Sellings were notable performers.

CHURCHILL made it two on the trot with a 178 point thumping of Stratford on foreign territory at Morwell Easts home ground on Saturday.

A nine goal opening term from the Cougars got the ball rolling and from there they never looked back, leading from start to finish, inflicting another defeat on the winless Swans.

Chris Burke kicked nine goals for the Cougars in a stellar display up forward; Nat Campbell was again among the goals finishing with seven and in his second match back from injury Leigh McDonalds best on ground performance was capped off with seven majors.

The Swans were simply no match for the class of perennial finalists Churchill, whose bigger bodies simply out played the smaller kids of Stratford who tried hard to stop the run of Joey Whykes, dominance of Dean Jenkins in contests with ruck man Andrew Brown another solid performer.

The percentage boosting win elevated the Cougars into third position on the ladder.

A nine goal to one third term was the catalyst in helping SALE CITY get over the line against Heyfield by 83 points, 22.13 (145) to 10.6 (66).

The match was an even keel in the opening half with the ladder leaders holding a mere seven point break over the Kangaroos at the long break.

The Dogs must have headed the words of coach Nick Hider at his half time addressing, the visitors blowing the match apart in the second half booting 14 goals to three, nine of which came in a stellar third term which saw the competitions number one ranked backline hold the reigning premiers to one behind.

Youngsters Beau Wilson and Michael Walsh led the charge on the scoreboard booting four and three respectively, the pair two of 12 individual goal kickers with new recruit Joel Brayshaw booting two in his senior debut for the Dogs.

City midfielder Josh Tollner continued his impressive season, with Matt Lutze polling among the votes.

Brent Hodge and defender Andrew Lambie were solid for the Kangaroos with Matt Millar and Nic Dowse the sole multiple goal kickers with two a piece.

GORMANDALE were kept in check in a close opening term against eighth placed Woodside with the Tigers unable to flex their muscle on the scoreboard.

As they have done at will over the past two months the Tigers were surprisingly contained early to lead by 17 points at the first change before Gormandale's forward trio of Paul Richards, Dane McGennisken and Daniel Trease stamped their authority on proceedings.

The dynamic forward trio blew apart the Wildcats backline as they booted 16 majors between them, Richards leading the charge with six.

It was equally matched at the opposite end of the ground with Woodside full forward Justin Staley keeping within reach of Richards on the league goal kicking table finishing with six.

But it was the Tigers dominance in the ruck contest Jack Marino a standout, McGennisken's drive into the forward line and captain Daniel Domaille's efforts in the midfield that proved the difference as the home side recorded their ninth straight victory the longest wining streak for the season.

Woodside's Reuben Haustorfer and Clint Hillas were among the best for the visitors.
