2010 Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 13 review

Lexton Plains FLThe door has shut early on the Kingprint Lexton Plains Football League final five.

Skipton, Lexton, Rokewood-Corindhap, Navarre and Carngham-Linton will contest what is likely to be the last LPFL final series.

Carngham-Linton ended Illabarook's finals hopes with a 12.12 (84) to 4.7 (31) win at Smythesdale on Saturday.

The loss sees the Bulldogs three games below Carngham-Linton with just three games remaining.

Carngham-Linton had control of Illabarook for most of the match Saturday, particularly after quarter time.

The Saints found regular avenues to goal, while Illabarook struggled in this area not for the first time this year.

Adam McLean kicked five for the Saints, with Shannon Berriman again best for Illabarook.

Lexton scored a milestone win over Natte-Bealiba at Lexton on Saturday.

It was not the 49 point margin, it was not the 14.12 (96) to 7.5 (47) scoreline, but it was the Tigers 100th win in the LPFL.

They did it in style too, not giving the Swans a sniff with a nine goal to two first half.

Cohan Poulton booted four majors for the winners as the Tigers took another step toward a top three finish.

Steve Ross and Karl Morley kicked two goals each in Natte-Bealiba's worst showing for six contests.

GOALS, Lexton :

Cohan Poulton 4, Tim Oliver 3, Nick Locandro 2, Tom Fisher 2, Lloyd Bennett 1, Richard Hocking-Turnbull 1, Dale Larkin 1

Navarre won its clash against Ararat Eagles in expected fashion, registering 20.17 (137) to 7.3 (45) Saturday at Navarre.

It was the Grasshoppers 50th home win in the LPFL and keeps them in touch with the top three.

Navarre had its best opening term for the year as it had little opposition for most of the day.

Five Ararat players played seniors after playing reserves, an area that the Eagles must address regardless of what league they are in next year.

Glenn Campbell was on song with four majors for Navarre, while Luke Foster booted three for the Eagles.

GOALS, Navarre :

Glenn Campbell 4, Louis Hannett 4, Wayne Driscoll 3, Josh Rathgeber 3, Josh Driscoll 2, Brent Moloney 2, Jesse Hannett 1, Matt Newton 1

Sunday saw a classic match between Rokewood-Corindhap and Skipton at Rokewood.

Top of the table Skipton had a dream first term against Rokewood-Corindhap, who was second going into round 13.

The Emus had four goals to quarter time with the Grasshoppers failing to register a goal.

But the dream almost turned into a nightmare as the home team slowly edged its way back into the match.

Early in the last quarter Rokewood-Corindhap was just a point behind in terrible conditions.

But it could not score the goal needed to put it in front with Skipton holding sway with the narrowest of margins separating the two at full time, 7.8 (50) to 7.7 (49).

Kiernan Molloy was the saviour for Skipton with two first term goals and a long range major in the final term to put the Emus over a goal up in time on.

Heath Anderson in defence was good and Damien Larkin was nippy in conditions which suited his style of play.

Rokewood-Corindhap's Xavier Ryan kicked two goals, as did Simon Bogie.

Ross Arnall was named best for the losers.

GOALS, Skipton :

Kiernan Molloy 3, Damien Larkin 1, Joe Nolan 1, Tim Beacham 1, Brendan Partridge 1

Rokewood Corindhap :

Simon Bogie 2, Xavier Ryan 2, Nicholas Braybon 1, Shane Edwards 1, Jesse Wellington 1

BEST, Skipton :

Heath Anderson, Damien Larkin, Kiernan Molloy, Brett Conroy, Joe Nolan, Graeme Lench

Rokewood Corindhap :

Ross Arnall, Cam Griffith, Shane Edwards, Tom Mullane-Grant, Jason Hutchins, Tim Carroll
