2010 Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 16 review

Lexton Plains FLRokewood-Corindhap claimed second spot on the Kingprint Lexton Plains Football League ladder with a four point victory over Lexton Saturday at Lexton.

Inaccuracy was the killer of the match with the Grasshoppers scoring 7.10 (52) to 5.18 (48).

Rokewood-Corindhap was good early in this area, but 1.6 in the final term put it under pressure in the wash up.

However Lexton was worse.

1.9 to the main break and four single behinds in the final quarter cost the Tigers a better chance of victory.

A free kick with a minute to go for Rokewood-Corindhap cancelled out a goal kicked by Lexton.

It helped the Grasshoppers retain and hold onto the slender lead.

If the result shows nothing else, it shows there is not much between the two.

There will be no rest for either team this week with a qualifying final this Saturday at Navarre again pitting the two.

Three goals to Xavier Ryan and Shane Edwards helped the Grasshoppers to victory.

Ryan has proved to be a thorn lately while newcomer Ben Watson did his chance of finals selection no harm at all.

Coach Tom Mullane-Grant missed through injury, with his selection or non-selection for this weekends game vital for Rokewood-Corindhap's chances.

Opposing coach Eamon Johnson (two goals) should have a full list to pick from, which is crucial for Lexton's success.

GOALS: Rokewood-Corindhap: Xavier Ryan, Shane Edwards 3, Tim Clifton.

Lexton: Eamon Johnson 2, Matt Stasse, Jay Robins, Lachy Pryor.

BEST: Rokewood-Corindhap: Cam Griffith, Shane Edwards, Ross Arnall, Ben Watson, Ben Decis, Xavier Ryan.

Lexton: Zac Thorne, Eamon Johnson, Michael Smith, Brett Pryor, Matt Stasse, Hugh Briody.

Skipton overcame a competitive Natte-Bealiba Saturday at Skipton to wrap up the minor premiership.

The Emus won by a comfortable 46 points, 16.14 (110) to 10.4 (64), but it was not all plain sailing.

Only two points separated the two over three quarters, but it was the third which proved the difference.

Skipton kicked seven goals to nothing to have the game in its keeping at three-quarter time.

Tim Beacham wrapped up the goal kicking title with six, taking his season tally to 72.

Stephen Ross and Brent Mortlock were once again in the best for the Swans.

Natte-Bealiba has not been far off in a number of matches this season, ending what has been a frustrating year for Brendan Scott and company.

GOALS: Skipton: Tim Beacham 6, Kiernan Molloy 4, Adam Slater, Tim McKay 2, Adam Bridges, Joel Riske.

Natte-Bealiba: Karl Morley, Brent Mortlock, Stephen Ross, 2, Llewyn Philbey, Brandon Mason, Lachy Douglas, Jamie Andrews.

BEST: Skipton: Graeme Lench, Joel Riske, Adam Bridges, Tim Beacham, Tim McKay.

Natte-Bealiba: Stephen Ross, Brent Mortlock, Jacob Long, Nathan Ross, Pat Adams.

Navarre won a spiteful game in very heavy conditions at Smythesdale Saturday against Illabarook.

The Grasshoppers won by 26 points, 6.9 (45) to 3.1 (19), but spot fires, particularly in the final term, had everyone on edge.

People from both sides of the fence were critical of the ground, with a preliminary final scheduled for the oval in three weeks surely under threat.

Navarre's Rhett Murphy was the only multiple goal kicker on the ground with two.

Navarre progresses to Sunday's elimination final at Ararat.

GOALS: Navarre: Rhett Murphy 2, Josh Rathgeber, Glenn Campbell, Daniel Parkin, Bryce Tickner.

Illabarook: Brad Schiltz, Brian Lovison, Joel van Gils.

BEST: Daniel Parkin, Glenn Campbell, John Trevean, Ben Scott, Zach Parry.

Illabarook: Shannon Berriman, Sean Webster, Brian Lovison, Brad Schiltz, Brendan Williams.

Navarre's opponent is Carngham-Linton who celebrated coach Duane Bodey's 250th senior match with a 153 point thumping of Ararat Eagles, 27.15 (177) to 3.6 (24).

Bodey kicked six goals, while Clint Ladiges finished with nine.

The Eagles endeavor could not be questioned but the team simply does not have the players or the skills to match it with other teams at the moment.

Richard O'Connell finished off the season on a high, name best for the Eagles.

GOALS : Carngham-Linton: Clint Ladiges 9, Duane Bodey 6, Adam McLean, Mitch Giddings 4, Jeremy Phelan 3, Damon Aspland.

Ararat Eagles: Brett McArthur 2, Marcus Matthews.

BEST: Carngham-Linton: Jason Hill, Tyson Burns, Clint Ladiges, Mitch Giddings, Jake Haeusler, Damon Aspland.

Ararat Eagles: Richard O'Connell, Nick Bulger, Ash Leggett, Luke Foster, Scott Jackson, Jack Marney.
