2010 Lexton Plains FL - Semi Finals review

Lexton Plains FLLexton was the big winner in the second week of Kingprint Lexton Plains Football League finals.

The Tigers have progressed to their first LPFL grand final when it shut down Skipton in the second semi-final at Lexton on Saturday.

For the second time this year Lexton upset the Emus on the Tigers home ground by applying pressure to the Skipton forwards.

The key for victory was to get the ball to ground and have the running defenders swoop and clear the ball.

At the other end of the ground the Tigers forwards made the most of every opportunity, which was what they needed to do.

Keeping Skipton to four goals to three quarter-time was a big win for Lexton.

However Skipton lifted intensity early in the last term and hit back hard on the scoreboard.

Four unanswered goals narrowed the margin from 27 points to two.

Lexton though did not panic, pushing forward one last time which resulted in a Ryan Dunstan goal to seal victory, 11.5 (71) to 8.15 (63).

Jay Robbins and Matt Torpey were nippy around the ground, while Matt Stasse helped control the midfield.

Skipton had few winners on the day.

Joel Riske kicked four goals, three in the final term, but other key forwards were of little effect.

Heath Anderson again shone in defence.

Lexton will have a week off as Skipton will need to go to the grand final via the preliminary final if it can get over Rokewood-Corindhap.

The Grasshoppers were impressive in their first semi-final win over Carngham-Linton, 15.10 (100) to 4.8 (32).

As poor as they were last week, they were good on Sunday dominating all day to end the Saints season.

The second efforts at the contest were evident early as the big men took over.

Cam Griffith and Dennis Biscan led the smaller brigade as the lead steadily increased.

A big last term was the icing on the cake as the Saints were held to just one goal after half-time.

Goal kicking was always going to be a potential problem and it proved the case Sunday.

Adam McLean was the only multiple scorer with two.

Clint Ladiges was stranded on 49 goals for the year.

James Templeton and Simon Jamieson were okay for Carngham-Linton but there too many passengers.

This year will be the first grand final Carngham-Linton will not contest since 2002.

It has been a magnificent run from the Saints and one they can be very proud of.
