Round 5 of the Youth Girls Football Competition moved from White Flat Reserve to the Dick Fleming Oval to avoid clashes with junior football finals next week. This didn't stop the girls playing some fantastic football and continuing to improve their skills every week.
The sunshine greeted the players and so did the muddy oval, which hasn't deterred the girls in the first 4 rounds of the season. Ballarat again proved they are the team to beat comfortably downing second placed Redan by 56 points.
It was a tight game between the two sides with scores level at the first break, however Ballarat broke clear and piled on 4 goals in both the second and last terms to storm home to victory. Abby Cummins continued her good form in front of goal with another 3 majors, while Lori Stepnell also contributed with 3 of her own.
In the second game of the day, Sebastopol and Golden Point went head to head in what was sure to be a close encounter after their previous match proved to be thrilling contest.
The round 5 battle was no different after Sebastopol jumped to a two goal lead at quarter time before extending that lead to three goals at the main break. Golden Point then started to slowly peg back the deficit only to fall 9 points short of their first victory of the season at the final siren.
Spectators would have been extremely satisfied with the result for both sides after a well fought out game. Emma Broughton was the standout up forward for the Burra's with 4 goals to her name; saw her named best for Sebastopol.
Jenna Bruton continues to put in solid performances for Golden Point with two goals and was helped by a fantastic game by Hayley Aird.
