GISBORNE'S giant-killing run continued at home to South Bendigo on Saturday. Despite being ravaged by injuries, Gisborne came from three goals down at the 22nd minute mark of the last quarter to win by six points and claim top spot in the Bendigo League.
"It's a great attribute of the guys to have that belief to be able to win games from any situation," Gisborne coach Tai Elliot said.
"They've been able to do it over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully they don't make a habit of it because it's not too good for the heart, but I'm very proud of them."
Callum Potter kicked five goals and Elliot said his mark late in the last quarter was one of the best he had seen.
Woorinen cruised to a 68-point win in the Central Murray League.
In the two Geelong League games yesterday, five goals to Tim McLean helped premiers St Mary's to a 19.17 (131) to 7.14 (56) win against Geelong West/St Peters, while Newtown & Chilwell had a 13-point win at St Albans.
On Saturday, Geelong Amateurs reasserted its authority over the Bellarine League with a 45-point win against Drysdale.
Six goals from captain Tim Clark helped put the premiers back on top of the ladder.
After suffering its first loss since 2007 last week, Yarra Valley Mountain District premiers Silvan lost by 55 points to Woori-Yallock.
In the North Central League, Boort repeated its 2008 grand final win against Wedderburn with a 46-point victory.
