VCFL Bush footy alert #12

At the ground. In the huddle. Around the boundary

WET & WILD IN THE COUNTRY
In a throw back to the ‘good ol days' there were matches on the weekend where you couldn't see the colours on the jumpers for the mud that coated every player on the ground from head to foot.

In the Yarra Valley, Upwey Tecoma went on a rampage against Silvan to kick 237 points on the day with 57 scoring shots, while in the Central Highlands only one team managed to score over 50 points in total. The weather certainly contributed to a day that coaches and players will file under ‘better forgotten about' with half a dozen senior teams just making double figures.

Well done to Robinvale and Wentworth in the Sunraysia League for their Indigenous Round on the weekend - this is an outstanding recognition of your communities. Good Luck to Mat Davidson in Bairnsdale who is a good chance to rack up his 100th goal next time he plays.

Squads and captains will be announced for the two Vic Country teams for the ACFC later this week. Both coaches are being extremely cautious with their final selections as we get into the last week of club footy before the Carnival, and both monitoring injuries.

GOALKICKERS
THE ROUND

It was a little quieter in the ‘big bag' stakes on the weekend with a few new names popping up in the weekly goalkickers list.

THE SEASON
With the back broken on the first 100 to be kicked this year by Grant Weeks last week, Matthew Davidson came agonisingly close on the weekend - finishing on 97. Match him up on a per week basis and he is the most dangerous forward in the state - Davidson will be making the journey to Canberra with the District Team.

For sheer star power - Robbo has kicked 73 up there for the Shepp Swans and keeping the punters coming through the gates.
