Victorian squads announced

acfclogoThe WorkSafe VCFL are pleased to announce the FINAL SQUADS that will be travelling to the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival in Canberra this week.

The Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival brings together the best country footballers from across the nation to compete for the status of national country champion.

The current title holder is the ACT.

Victoria fields two teams in this Carnival drawn from the Major and District Leagues respectively. Teams from South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory are also competing in the 2010 Carnival in Canberra.

Peter Knights is coaching the Victorian Major League State Team with Ron Thomas coaching the Victorian District League State Team.

Glenn Scott, CEO of the WorkSafe Victorian Country Football League said that selection at this level was a terrific achievement,

"It is a great feather in the caps of these players selected. For many of these guys it will be the highest honour they will wear as a footballer, for others it may just be the launching pad to greater heights in their career. There is no doubt that this year's Carnival has generated a lot of interest from AFL recruiters and all of them will be in Canberra across the Carnival."

Victoria Country Captains Announced:

Joe McLaren of Koroit in the Hampden Football Netball League has been selected to captain the Victoria Major League State Team. Joe has been a major fixture of the Victorian Major League team since 2004 and has said that his passion for representative football has never been stronger.

"It's the highest standard of football I can play," said McLaren.

"All of the other lads think along the same lines. It's an Australian championship. We're not wanting to cruise along. We're going there to win the carnival and do everything possible we can to do it. We're not taking it lightly at all."

Redan star Jarrod Edwards of the Ballarat Football League has been named Vice Captain.

Andy Grant of the Elmore Football Club in the Heathcote District Football League has been named as captain for the Victorian District League State Team. Grant had the role of captain at the last ACFC in 2008.
