The Victorian District team completed their round robin matches today against WA and SA at Quenbeyan Oval on Day 2 of the Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival.
The Vic District team had a narrow loss of three points to Western Australia in the first match of the day, and then went down to Grand Finalist South Australia by 25 points.
Although finishing with just 1 win from their 6 matches, the District boys were close and competitive in their matches across the two opening days of the Carnival.
Coach Ron Thomas was full of praise for his charges.
"These players showed all of the grit and determination we expected of them over the last two days of play. Even more than that, they dug into games that no-one gave them a hope in."
"I think we have shown that District footy in Victoria can match it with the big boys. To take WA to 3 points, give the ACT a scare, and have a mighty battle with the Major (Victorian) team is something these boys can take away with them."
The Vic District team will play an abridged round robin with WA and NSW on Sunday at Ainslie Oval to determine their final finishing position at the conclusion of the Carnival.
Better players in today's fixtures included Stephen Nightingale of Bright, captain Steve Schultz from Kalkee, and Mark Ramsey from Newstead.
