Vic Major into the grand final after strong results

acfclogoThe Vic Major team hit their straps on Day 2 of the 2010 Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival with three convincing wins from three matches today.

The team made marked improvements in their efficiency with the ball, and they straightened up coming into the forward line, giving their forwards the chance to lead up.

The Major League Team dominated in their early matches against NSW and QLD to chalk up big wins (44 and 36 points) to gain valuable percentage. The third match against WA was never in doubt and straight kicking saw them finish 22 point victors.

The wins puts the Vic Country Major League team into the Grand Final of the 2010 Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival. Their opponent will be South Australia, who suffered their only loss for the Carnival to Vic Major on Day 1.

Coach Peter Knights was very pleased with the efforts of the entire playing group today,

"We were much happier with our overall performances today. I think after the three games yesterday the guys were able to get to know each other on the footy field - what each of them are capable of and where their strengths lie."

"We came into today after tweaking our game plan slightly and with areas we needed to work on - to the credit of the players, they took it on board and the results showed."

Glenn Scott, CEO of the WorkSafe VCFL said today's results were indicative of the character and bond that the team is fostering while in Canberra,

"You could sense it amongst the group that they were ready to go today. We are absolutely thrilled for these guys and I am sure the whole of the WorkSafe VCFL will be behind them on Sunday.", said Scott.

The Vic Major Team attended their recovery session at the Australian Institute of Sport directly after their last match, and the focus now is to rest weary legs before Sunday's Grand Final.

"Our strength is our evenness of the group and the depth we have. Since the very beginning we have spoken about ‘The 25', and about the important of each and every player. Today that clicked and we look forward to a full match hit out on Sunday.", said Peter Knights.

Golden Square sharpshooter Grant Weeks kicked 8 goals over the 3 matches with Justin Berry kicking 4 in the match against WA. Better players over the day were Andrew McLean from St Mary's, Xavier Maloney from Swan Hill, Simon O'Keefe from Koroit and David Clarke of Corowa.
