Ron Barassi to Attend MCDFNL Clash This Weekend

MCDFLAFL Legend and National Treasure Ron Barassi will be heading to Carisbrook on Sunday

June 26th where he will attend the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League clash between Carisbrook and Navarre for the latest WorkSafe Game of the Month.

The WorkSafe Game of the Month will bring a bumper crowd to the for the Round 9 contest, with all eyes from around the district on the stand alone match.

Barassi played more than 250 games of VFL/AFL football for Melbourne and Carlton including six premierships with the Demons, followed by a famous coaching career that included two premierships with Carlton and two with North Melbourne. He was an inaugural inductee into the AFL Hall of Fame in the 'Legend' category.

It could be argued that no-one has had the impact on Australian Football that Barassi has, and he continues his passion for football at the top level and at the grass roots to this day.

Barassi, who regularly attends country football games as the WorkSafe Country Footy Ambassador, will address a pre-game luncheon before mingling with the crowd and taking in the local footy. There will be activities for the kids at the venue during the afternoon.

Barassi will present the winning senior football and netball teams with specially struck "WorkSafe Cups" at the conclusion of the senior football match.

The WorkSafe Game of the Month program, now in its 9th year, has become a major highlight of the WorkSafe VCFL calendar according to WorkSafe VCFL CEO, Steven Reaper.

"The WorkSafe Games of the Month have been very popular over recent years and a definite highlight of the WorkSafe VCFL calendar. It is always fantastic to have AFL Legend Ron Barassi in attendance at these matches.

"This match has even extra significance given the hardships faced by the Carisbrook community and footy club in recent times with the floods, and the fact that Navarre is celebrating its centennial year in 2011. It is just great to be able to come out and share a day at the footy and netball with the locals.

"'Barass' is so genuine and giving with his time and with his interest of country people and our local sport - he is one of the true gentlemen of the game of Australian Rules. We are honoured that we can be a part of the football netball season in the MCDFNL." said Mr Reaper.

In an extra initiative at the WorkSafe Games of the Month, country supporters can also receive a free comprehensive health check courtesy of WorkHealth at the match.

Reaper asked all fans and officials to support this endeavour,

"We encourage all supporters who are at the game to come and see the nurses at theWorkHealth marquee and book in for health check. It will take just 15 minutes out of your day to get your own personal scorecard on your health. It could be the most important 15 minutes of your weekend."
