Another big weekend of local bush footy around the state and all leagues are right in the middle of their seasons. Grounds are starting to chop up - and mothers across the state are again cursing football for clogging up their washing machines with mud.
It was great to be at the Carisbrook Football Club on Sunday to watch the Redbacks take on the Navarre Hoppers in a tight contest under magnificent blue skies.
Considering the precinct was 1 metre under water during the summer floods, the recovery and the resilience of all the townsfolk and the club is remarkable. A few of the cockies were heard to say that they could do with a bit more rain to soften the ground up a bit. Well done to Benie Tatchell and the team at Carisbrook for hosting such a great day.
Good luck to Navarre who will be holding their Centenary Celebrations this weekend with a few big functions planned. Here's to 100 years more.
VCFL Leagues Meeting This Week:
This Wednesday and Thursday the WorkSafe VCFL is conducting its annual Leagues Meeting.
The Leagues meeting will run through the annual financial analysis and benchmarking of leagues, plus a range of agenda items set by both the VCFL and the Leagues. Leagues from across the state will be in attendance.
The Leagues Meetings are a great way for leagues to share ideas and war stories, and for the VCFL to present best practice across a range of issues relevant to the community football industry.
The VCFL Manangement team will be happy to run anyone interested through the agenda and will have reports after the two day session concludes.
VCFL State Squads Training This Weekend:
All three VCFL State Teams will be training this Sunday at Melbourne venues. The VCFL Graincorp Vic2 team will be at Harry Trott oval in Albert Park along with the Under 19 squad, while the VCFL Vic1 side will train at Princes Park Oval 1 in Carlton. 11am starts for all.
Reduced training squads will be announced later in the week, with final squads selected after this Sunday's training session.
Around The Grounds
Loddon Valley FL - Bridgewater suffered their first defeat for the year again YCW. Maybe the one 'they had to have' after a very successful run of wins - including last years Premiership..
Ellinbank FL - Garfield now 12 in a row and putting distance between them and the pack.
Football Geelong - Tim Callan to be making an appearance for Newton & Chilwell this week. Will Max Rooke also pull on the boots?
Bellarine FL - Match of the Round this week with Ocean Grove playing Geelong Amateur to squeeze the other out of the top two. Current standing:
Ocean Grove 9 2 0 182.96 36
Queenscliff 9 2 0 180.31 36
Geelong Amateur 9 2 0 158.99 36
Hampden FL - South Warrnambool the team to beat. 3 games clear at the top of the table and can start planning for the last few weeks of finals.
Heathcote FL - Match of the Round (2) - Heathcote take on LBU in a top of the table clash. LBU are on fire and will be looking at breaking the undefeated record of Heathcote. One to watch.
VCFL GOALKICKERS
A big 16 goal haul from superstar Kahl Oliver tops the list for the weekends sharp shooters. Schuback is an impressive player with AFL experience at Adelaide who has
had a great impact at Sale City.
SEASON
Luke James and Peter Cook continue consistent seasons in front of goals.
While young Macy Hambrook of Omeo-Benambra Under 17's was the first player in the country to breach the Golden 100, these senior boys are a mere matter of a few weeks before they cross the line themselves.
