Waubra scrapped out a solid, if unimpressive win over Beaufort on Saturday, beating the spirited home side by 103 points in a disjointed Round 12 encounter.

The Reigning Bendigo Bank Central Highlands Football League Premiers were always too classy, but struggled for cohesion in the 17.20 to 2.7 win.

Having a number of top players out of the side, the second placed Kangaroos lacked their usual fluent ball movement, and were wasteful in front of goal.

Even leading goal kicker Lee Brown suffered a rare case of the yips, missing a number of kickable goals on his way to 3 for the match.

Beaufort, with a side liberally sprinkled with youth, were able to put Waubra under great physical pressure, resulting in unusual hesitancy among the ‘Roos, and some very poor disposal.

Unfortunately the Crows were unable to capitalise on the excellent efforts of Anthony Bourke and Simon Hayes, both playing with maturity beyond their years.

Bourke, in particular, was brilliant. Stepping up to fill the gap left in the Crow’s midfield by injury, the pocket dynamo was at the bottom of nearly every pack, creative by hand, and ran hard all day.

Waubra had a larger number of contributors, but some players flashed in and out of the game.

Michael Sordello was solid, rebounding through half back, but established players like Danny Liston were uncharacteristically wasteful with some disposals, often the result of Beaufort’s relentless pressure.

Mark Molloy and Chris Bourke both finished with 2 goals, and Phil Amoore added spark to the ‘Roos forward zone when he came on after half time.

Beaufort will be hoping for a similarly gutsy performance against Bungaree next week, while the Kangaroos host Creswick.
