TAMIKA STEWART
GOLDEN SQUARE
Few players can lay claim to a milestone of 250 BFNL games especially at the one club yet Golden Square’s longest serving player, Tamika Stewart, will do so today in her A Reserve match against Castlemaine at Camp Reserve.
Since joining Golden Square in 1994, Tamika has witnessed many changes in BFL netball. She recalls vividly how, with only two grades in existence, games were played at any venue available. Many clubs did not have netball courts located within the club’s ground precinct so Golden Square played at the local primary school, Eaglehawk made use of the local YMCA and Maryborough played at the local association courts.
In the ensuing 13 years, netball has grown to accommodate 4 grades of netball and all clubs have a court within the club’s playing venue. In this time Tamika has played at A Grade and A Reserve level and her premiership medallion tally currently stands at four. With finals commencing next week Tamika will be eager for her team to add a further premiership to her cap. Ironically, Tamika’s 1994 coach Monique Bonney returned to Golden Square this year again as coach of the A Reserve and will be guiding her charges into the finals.
Congratulations Tamika, you will receive a $50 voucher to open a new bank account with the Bendigo Bank.
