Lexton Plains FL - Rnd 14 review

By Rhys Brehaut.

Two rounds remain in the Lexton Plains Football League, and what a season it has been.
Reigning premier Carngham-Linton is getting its season back on track, losing its opening four games, but winning its last five.

2006 runners-up Skipton lost its first game Saturday to fourth placed Natte-Bealiba, while second placed Rokewood-Corindhap continues its march to finals with a hard fought win over Illabarook who are fifth.

Out of the five, are three teams who will wind up their senior season in two weeks time.
Navarre, who has never finished lower than sixth in the LPFL, seem likely to remain sixth, while Lexton will finish up seventh, after contesting the past four finals series.

Ararat Eagles remain on the bottom, a position it has held for the past two seasons.

Last Saturday saw Natte-Bealiba score a win over Skipton, increasing its chances come finals, and putting a small dent in Skipton’s season.

The 24 point win, 15.9 (99) to 10.11 (71), was set up in the second term with Natte-Bealiba (the Swans) booting five goals to two.

Brad Ross booted five for the victors, while Danny George finished with three for Skipton (the Emus).

Rokewood-Corindhap (the Grasshoppers) pulled away from Illabarook (the Bulldogs), but it was the final term that this happened.

Illabarook led at half time, and trailed by only five points at the last change.
Four goals to one sealed the game, with Brett Augustine kicking six majors for Rokewood-Corindhap in the 12.13 (85) to 9.7 (61) victory.

Illabarook might struggle come finals, but will not be for the want of trying.
James Boag and Ryan Dunstan led the goal charge with three each for the Bulldogs.

Lexton (the Tigers) scored only its fourth win of the season, but as it approaches the end of the year may prove an important one as it moves into recruiting mode.

An inaccurate Navarre (the Grasshoppers) kicked itself out of the contest, while Lexton kicked itself to a 16 point win, 14.8 (92) to 9.22 (76).

Navarre has suffered many injuries during the year, and will hoping for better luck next year.
Marcus Driscoll kicked three goals for Navarre, while Lexton’s Matt Shortal registered four.

Carngham-Linton (the Saints) continued Ararat Eagles woes, scoring an easy 108 point win, 25.15 (165) to 9.3 (57).

Adam McLean and Ross Waters kicked five majors for the winners, as the Saints jumped up to third, but have two tough matches remaining against the top two teams.

The Eagles have a young and inexperienced side.

Three goals to Brent Bulger was the best an Eagles player could do.

This week ladder leader Skipton comes up Carngham-Linton in what promises to be a close contest that will be anyone’s game right to the end.

Ararat Eagles take on Rokewood-Corindhap in what should be a comfortable win for the Grasshoppers.

These two games are on Sunday, while Saturday sees Illabarook and Navarre do battle, as well as Lexton and Natte-Bealiba.

Illabarook and Natte-Bealiba should record victories in the penultimate round in the LPFL’s ninth year.
